Detroit, Michigan is known for its art, culture, and city skyline. The city is also known for its inner-city youth programs that attempt to keep young kids from going down the wrong path. Four boys from Detroit are being hailed as heroes after saving a dog they found tied up with bungee cords behind a home.

Four young heroes rescue a dog in need

The four boys, brothers Kenny, Kenneth, and Kevin, along with their friend Andrew, were helping an elderly neighbor move from one home to another. As they helped the woman move, they came across something disturbing.

They saw a dog tied up behind one of the homes with bungee cords.

The dog was severely starved and in bad shape. Fortunately, the boys had come along. Thinking quickly, the boys freed her from the bungee cords and wrapped her in a jacket to keep her warm. Next, they took her home, determined to help her recover.

A chance meeting

Naming her Sparkles, they gave her food and water and made her as cozy as they could.

They even made sure to walk her the next day. While doing so, they came across workers from the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue. The boys told the workers how they had found the dog and taken care of her.

It was a good thing that they had come across the members of the Detroit Pit Crew. Sparkles was rushed to the vet to get checked out. It was obvious that Sparkles had been neglected and abused, and was thought to have mange.

Sparkles was checked out

After being looked at, it was determined that Sparkles did not have the mange. It was only because she was so thin from lack of food that she looked that way. This was good news for Sparkle as it meant she could be put up for adoption sooner than expected.

Finding Sparkles a home

Not too long after the boys had saved her, she was taken to a foster home found through another local organization, Pet Tales Rescue. Dogs are placed in foster homes to get them ready for their new homes when they are eventually adopted.

Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue

The goal of the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue is to rescue the stray dogs that live on the streets of Detroit, including those that are sick, injured, or in imminent danger. The organization responds to calls from a variety of sources, including concerned neighbors, various law enforcement groups, and workers.

The boys’ weren’t done

Rescuing Sparkles was not the end of it for the four boys. They went on to save two other dogs from the streets of Detroit. The boys have proven themselves to be true heroes and friends to animals everywhere.
