Turns out Brad Pitt is a pretty good guy.

In fact, the popular actor is the kind of guy who would let an elderly person live in his home rent-free.

Pitt purchased a 1.9-acre property in 1994 from Cassandra Peterson, who is better known as the Mistress of the Dark, Elvira.

She would later tell PEOPLE about the kind way Pitt used the property after the sale.

Elvira and Brad Pitt became neighbors

After selling her old home to Pitt, Elvira bought another house that was right next door.

This led to the two becoming friends in addition to neighbors.

Brad started to expand his property. Anytime a nearby house would go on sale, he’d purchase it.

John needed to sell his home

One of Pitt’s neighbors who put his home on the market was an elderly man named John.

He had lived on the property with his wife up until she passed away.

John didn’t want to sell his home. It was the place where him and his wife built a life together. So, Pitt made him a deal.

John and Brad Pitt come to an arrangement

The popular actor was in no hurry to take over John’s property so they made a deal.

John could live on the property rent-free for the rest of his life.

Pitt would then take over the land after he passed away.

John jumped at the opportunity to be able to stay in the home he loves without having to pay for it.

John was in his mid 90s

Pitt likely assumed that John wouldn’t live much longer. People who are in their mid-90s rarely do.

John would make it longer than anyone thought, however, and wouldn’t pass away until the tender age of 105.

Generally speaking, if any of us get to either A) live rent-free in a house paid for by Brad Pitt or B) live to 105, we would be considered quite fortunate.

John got to have both of those things!

That’s not all Pitt did for John

He didn’t just let him live on the property, Pitt helped look after him in other ways as well.

He’d even drive him to the grocery store on occasion.

John even came to know Pitt’s six children, as well as his ex-spouse, Angelina Jolie.

They were all devastated when John finally passed. He had become like family to everyone.

Brad Pitt sells his entire estate

Pitt wouldn’t sell his estate until shortly after John’s passing.

He sold all of the properties he accumulated in the area for a cool $40 million.

The wildly successful actor also has homes in Hollywood Hills and in France.

Elvira will miss living next to her friend

Pitt selling his estate means he’ll no longer be living next to Elvira.

The two spent many years together. Elvira recalled to PEOPLE how one day she passed by Pitt’s place when he was busy preparing to film the movie, Fight Club.

“I go past Brad’s garage and he’s in there wearing only sweatpants,” the actress says, “he’s got on boxing gloves and is punching a bag. I swear I almost fainted… He’s just so stunningly, stunningly handsome – and nice to top it off.”
