Brave teens given Medal of Honor after rescuing a deputy from violent, late-night attack

Working as a police officer is a scary job. You simply never know what a seemingly simple call could turn into. Often, they are ready to rush into the direst of circumstances and deal with a problem as no one else can.

Despite cops being the “saviors” in many scary situations, sometimes they need a bit of saving, too!

One Deputy found herself in a situation that perfectly demonstrates how we all need a little help sometimes. Responding to the scene of an accident, she had no idea what she was walking into. When she stepped on site, she discovered a multi-vehicle accident, and the suspect was trying to escape the scene.

A drunk driver was the likely culprit of the accident.

When Deputy Elliot got the call, it was around 1 a.m. She got to the scene as quickly as she could when she realized that the drunk driver attempted to escape. Her first line of duty was to make sure the people involved were safe, but as she was doing her checks, the suspect took off.

Deputy Elliot tried to arrest him but was soon overpowered.

The drunk man became violent and overpowered the Deputy. Things began to look scary, but thankfully, others were around. Five teenagers saw that the man had his hands around the Deputy’s neck and leaped to action.

The teenagers ran forward, shouting and waving at the man.

Once they saw he was distracted, they lept on him and overpowered him! They held him down until Deputy Elliot put him in handcuffs, giving them the overwhelming advantage. The entire moment happened incredibly fast, but the King County Sherriff’s Office posted the teens’ detailed account on Facebook.

The fight wasn’t clean, but most fights aren’t.

In the Facebook post, the teens explained exactly what happened:

“Deputy Elliott called out to the male to stop, but he kept trying to stumble away from her. Deputy Elliott had to jog up to the male and was able to grab on to him to advise him he was not free to leave and was being detained. The male immediately turned around in a fighting stance with his arms up in the air. A struggle began and at one point Deputy Elliott was able to get the suspect onto the ground and call for help on her radio.

Suddenly, the suspect wrapped his arms around Deputy Elliott’s neck, put her in a headlock and began squeezing. She struggled to get out of the hold but thankfully did not lose consciousness. About this time, Deputy Elliott heard several men’s voices yelling “get off of her.” A group of young men, pictured below, jumped on the suspect and struggled with him as Deputy Elliott was able to get free. They held the suspects shoulders and legs to the ground to allow Deputy Elliott to handcuff the man.”

The teens may have literally saved her life that night.

Since that fateful moment, justice has been served. The suspect was arrested for felony assault of an Officer and DUI. Even better, each of the boys who helped in the scuffle was given a Medal of Heroism Award! Deputy Elliot was able to walk away with her life and only a few bruises.

While officers are usually the ones who save us, these boys have given us a reminder that we are all human and occasionally need saving ourselves.

The parents of these teens probably lifted quite the eyebrow when their kids explained what happened that night! At least they would all have their medals as proof. The story is one of the happy-ending ones, thankfully, and their parents have a lot to be proud of.
