Bride sends bridesmaids 2 entire pages filled with outlandish expectations for her wedding

While weddings can be a special time, they can also be tremendously stressful and financially draining. They have broken up friendships and strained family relations seemingly as often as they have created happy romantic memories. One bride-to-be had an idea to make them a little easier for everyone involved, however.

Lisa Torres received a lot of online attention after sending a 2-page letter of “bridesmaid expectations” to her potential bridesmaids.

It would be shared on TikTok and go viral. Torres, however, wanted to make sure that everyone signing up for bridesmaid duties knew exactly what they were getting into.

“When you agree to be a bridesmaid….”

Lisa’s letter was in response to a popular TikTok video that went over the costs of being a bridesmaid.

“When you agree to be a bridesmaid, without realizing it’ll cost you three whole paychecks and every second of your paid time off for this year.”

Being transparent with her bridesmaids.

Lisa mentioned in her video that before she got engaged, she was unaware of the time and cost commitments that being a bridesmaid entailed. So, she decided it would be best to be transparent with anyone agreeing to be her bridesmaid.

“I felt very insecure doing this, but I’m ultimately glad that I did…and that was including a letter of what I expected from my bridal party.”

Her letter included guidance on what a bridesmaid would need to pay for themselves and what Lisa would pay for them.

“I also specified money commitments, so I told them I would pay for their hair and makeup, but that they would be responsible for the cost of the bridesmaid dress – although they had freedom over what style they wanted, I just asked for a specific color.”

Frequently asked questions from bridesmaids.

“Your friendship is important to me. When I was a bridesmaid, I didn’t realize the commitment, cost, and expectations. This is why I want to be fully transparent about the details before you make a decision.”

There was also a list of questions a bridesmaid might have along with Lisa’s response to the anticipated query. One question asked “Do you expect me to make any appearance changes (dye my hair, lose weight) for the wedding day?” To which Lisa simply responded “No. That’s weird.”

The most important part of Lisa’s letter.

The most important part of Lisa’s letter to her potential bridesmaids was that she mentioned her friends could say no and it would not impact their friendship.

“I told them that they could say no to being a bridesmaid, that we would still be friends and they could still keep all the gifts in the bridesmaid proposal box,” she said. “One of them said no and we’re still good friends.”

Lisa wanted to make sure everyone knew what they were getting into and knew that they could say no without it causing a problem. We think Lisa is a pretty good friend!

“I thought it would impact a couple people, but I think it might have a larger impact than that, and that’s great. I think in general, communication is good. Relationships end because of bad communication. If (the letter) could help people, then I’m really happy about that.” – Lisa Torres
