Brother and sister light up floor at swing dance championship
Swing dance was born in 1920 and it became popular in the 1930s and 40s- but it didn’t stop there. Swing dance is still being performed all around the world.
We can still see swing being danced in the clubs, in street performances, and dance festivals. Also, there are still swing dance competitions here and there.
According to Wikipedia:
“Swing dance” was not commonly used to identify a group of dances until the latter half of the 20th century. Historically, the term ‘Swing’ referred to the style of jazz music, which inspired the evolution of the dance.”
Swing dance still lives, thanks to active dancers and groups who have passed on the art to their kids. Just like these kids in the video.
Jack and Jasmine Willis are siblings from today’s generation who are into swing dance.
If the last name rings a bell, then you probably know the Willis clan. They are an entire hood of good looks and talent.
If you’ve noticed, the little siblings are dancing to live band music, that’s their big sister singing with the others playing the instruments.
You may have watched youngsters dancing before- but we bet you’ve never seen anything like this.
Jack and Jasmine competed in the 6-13 Young America category of the 2010 US Open Swing Dance Championships.
Very jazzy, going back to the days of the big band era. When men and women dressed sharply, the nights were young, and the dancing alive.
The dancing siblings can absolutely bring you back to the good old days.
An online viewer even commented:
“What I don’t understand is how this family can be so absolutely amazing at everything. I mean it is absolute perfection in every artistic form.”
How can a boy and a girl of that age dance so smoothly?
Jack and Jasmine are both so light on their feet, it looks like gravity doesn’t affect them.
Another online fan wrote:
“I’m completely in love with these guys – I’m sure they’ll be ones to watch in a few years!! Hurrrah for the young america category!”
Usually, the swing dance is performed in a lively manner, with lots of twists and turns. It’s a very cool and hip dance form loved by many ages.
Jack and Jasmine, however, put a different flavor to it by making their moves a bit slower. They filled their performance with funky steps while maintaining their posture at the same time.
The Willis siblings are not slowing down.
They drop to half a squat, shift their weight from left to right while on their knees. Jasmine can strut, spin, and split, just like a pro.
On the other hand, her equally-talented brother, Jack does his cool macho part. An awesome performance indeed, and the crowd is obviously having a blast!
More about the Willis Clan.
The Willis is a family of 14 members from Nashville, Tennessee. Their family is so famous, in fact, they joined the season 9 of America’s Got Talent and reached the quarter-finals.
They also had a reality TV show called The Willis Family. It’s about their talented family and it aired on TLC in 2015 and 2016.
Going back to Jack and Jasmine’s performance, their routine seems to have climbed up one level.
Their oh so fancy footwork, facial expression, twists and turns, glides, hand gestures, and highly-coordinated body movements are all in one place.
They are one with the music and they don’t look like they plan to miss a single beat from their performance.
As expected, after their performance, the crowd went on their feet. The Willis siblings got a standing ovation, endless rounds of applause, and cheers from the audience.
Jack and Jasmine are a total package of charm and pure talent. They deserve to be the grand champion of that competition, wouldn’t you agree?
