Brothers mow elderly woman's lawn to keep her from going to jail over ridiculous law
Way back in 2018, a 75-year old named Gerry Suttle from Riesel, Texas was threatened with jail time over a ridiculous law.
She was asked to explain before a judge why the grass on her lawn exceeded 18 inches tall. Gerry claims she never received a notice. She wasn’t even aware of such a law.
Having violated the city code and not responding to the notice, Suttle was issued a warrant of arrest.
Four young brothers heard of Gerryâs troubles in a news report.
âWe havenât met her yet but sheâs 75 years old and she needs some help mowing,â Blaine Reynolds, one of the four, said. âThatâs the least we could do.â
The brothers knew Gerry needed their help.
It wasn’t just the overgrown grass, but the fact that Gerry could go to jail. She was an old woman who deserved to be treated with kindness and respect. And the boys knew this.
The four young brothers made their way to Gerry’s then went ahead and sheared and cut her overgrown lawn. All of it under the scorching 90 degree summer heat.
They kept working under the hot sun.
Gerry’s neighbor took notice of the brothers’ determination and drive.
The neighbors watched the boys before realizing what was happening so they jumped into action as well, getting on their their mowers and helping the young brothers finish the mission.
It was a huge group effort that paid off in the end. Everybody did their part transforming the once overgrown lawn into a beautiful one.
And they did it within two hours.
Gerry had no idea what was going on. When she came out to see what all the energy was about, she was shocked to see the group and her now trimmed lawn.
She couldnât believe there were four boys, boys she didn’t know, and her neighbors were all there working for her.
And all for free.
âI cannot believe this! I am very seldom without words but this is one time. You mark it down in history that I didnât have something to say.â Gerry was speechless and extremely grateful.
âItâs summer day, we donât have season passes yet to Warren Falls. What else could we do? Just go out and help some people.â one of the brothers said, adding that they really wanted to help Gerry.
âI really wouldnât want her coming out here doing it or paying a bunch of money, when we could have just done it for free.â He went on to add.
It’s not often we hear of stories like these. Young boys during the summer will want to be out, having fun and playing without a care in the world. But these boys chose to act out of kindness.
Their selflessness and generosity kept an old woman out of trouble. And the best part is new friendships were formed. Even the neighbors were inspired by their actions!
