Mom hears boy ask her son why his mom is a different color, she beams with joy at her son's reply

There is truly nothing more beautiful than a family who embraces diversity and loves one another. Jessica Satterfield’s family is the perfect example of this. She and her husband adopted three children together and they are wonderful.

The two had been married for eleven years and had no luck getting pregnant. There had been several IUI attempts, but no success. The good thing though is that they did find a solution, and that solution was adoption. They were ready to give their unconditional love to a child and so they did.

After deciding to go forth, they adopted a little girl. A few years after that they adopted a baby boy and then another boy.

Of their situation, Jessica shared that they think of the children’s biological parents every day. However, that being said, it also feels like the kids aren’t adopted because they are so close and have such a lovely connection.

“I glanced in the mirror one night when I was putting my children to bed and suddenly remembered that I didn’t grow them in my belly when I saw our reflection staring back at us,” Jessica said. ‘It might sound weird that I forget that my children are adopted, but I do. Because to me, they’re just my children.”

It’s true that when you are a mother, your maternal instinct kicks in. If you have a child, they are your child, no matter how they came to be.

But when people on the street see the family, it’s different. This is because everyone’s skin tone is different. When they look at them, that is what they see. Because of this, according to Jessica, the family will get lots of strange stares and looks when they are out in public.

There was one beautiful moment when a man walked up to the family just to let them know they they were beautiful. Since then, Jessica decided to look at it that way and think that whenever the fam got stares from people in public, it was because they were admiring them.

Jessica continued: “When I look at my sweet children, even though we celebrate them, I don’t always notice our differences. I just see my children, the ones I waited on for so long, the ones I prayed for, and dreamed about.”

One day came when they were on the playground and another little boy came up to her son. “Why is your mom white and you’re brown?” he asked. The boy’s response?

“Families don’t have to match to be a family. What makes a family is their love.”

Jessica heard her son’s answer and her heart burst. She was overwhelmed with love and was so moved by the way that her son saw their family’s connection. The love was obvious.

This being said, the family doesn’t believe that love is color blind. Jessica and her husband want their three kids to be aware of diversity as well as adoption… But by the way it sounds, it seems like they’re doing a pretty great job of teaching their children about what matters most.
