Meet Bruce Willis. Bruce Willis the cat, that is.

Mr. Willis got a rough start to life and spent his first 5 or 6 years on the street. Then, the ginger domestic shorthair was brought into Minnesota’s Animal Humane Society for care.

While he was in pretty bad shape, people around the state fell in love with him after the shelter’s Facebook post described his loud purring any time someone picked him up. It was clear this little guy was a lover at heart and just needed a real owner to take him in and care for him.

People were heartbroken to hear that the sweet kitten who purred so loud during his initial exam that the vet couldn’t hear his heartbeat had scars, broken teeth, a poorly-healed eye injury, and tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).

But then he made a friend. A woman named Sandra saw his photo online on August 8th – International Cat Day – and even though she knew her apartment complex wouldn’t allow pets, she was determined to go and say hello.

“When I saw his picture, it just spoke to my heart,” she told Love Meow.

Meeting him in person was heart-wrenching. Sandra posted a photo of Mr. Willis from his cage with the caption:

“I looked even sadder in real life than in the picture. A dog walked by and I got so scared, but I didn’t have any energy to even move.”

But unable to take him home, Sandra could only hope a good family would come and adopt him.

Then, she found out that Mr. Willis had gotten sick and was determined to go back and visit.

It was just a cold, but his FIV made it difficult to fight off so he was moved into a semi-private room, barely able to rouse himself to see his new friend.

Sandra couldn’t take it, and she put the cat on “hold” and told the shelter she would beg her landlord to make an exception.

After sending the landlord photos (and no doubt being a good and responsible tenant) he relented and allowed Sandra to bring home Mr. Willis on September 10th.

By the time Mr. Willis got to his new home, he was already looking better – and that loud and constant purr is still his signature.

“He didn’t stop purring all night. Since that day, he’s been following me around no matter where I go,” Sandra told Love Meow.

By the very next day, the orange tabby was already quite the snugglepuss.

As one might imagine, it took a little time for him to get used to new sounds (like the hairdryer) and a routine, but he’s settled in and by all accounts doing well. After all, he does have his very own Instagram page!

From the captions his new owner has shared, it appears he likes sleeping, playing, salmon, and begging for salmon. In other words, despite his tough early days and health condition, Mr. Willis is a normal cat.

In less than a month, Mr. Willis has gone from the cat no one wanted to having over 5000 fans on social media!

But most importantly, he finally found his forever home.
