Bulldog defies expectations when it makes an impressive performance in the agility track

What are your first impressions about a bulldog?

When someone sees an American or English bulldog, they sometimes assume they’re slow and lazy. We can’t blame them, though.

Wrinkly furrowed brows, stocky build, short legs, and wobbly walking – these dogs don’t seem to be built for speed, agility, and dexterity. But all of those assumptions were challenged with Rudy took center stage.

Rudy, known by his “government name” Von Rudolph Augustus Perkins, is a trailblazer.

He is one of the contestants for the Westminster Kennel Club’s Masters Agility event where they decide which dog is the meanest, fastest, and most agile.

The event is filled with obstacles ranging from vault bars, board ramps, and even tunnels, to test a dog’s reaction time.

Just by looking at the track, you’d know it isn’t a good place for a dog like Rudy. But Rudy, with his majestic dental profile, begs to disagree.

As soon as the whistle blows, Rudy zoomed like a blur.

The dog from Ohio sprinted through the life buoy like his tail was on fire. In a matter of seconds, he was jumping over hurdles like they were nothing!

The crowd roared and even the commentators were surprised by what they were seeing. Bulldogs aren’t necessarily a fast breed but with how much time Rudy was making, they had to hold back every assumption.

He reacted perfectly to his handler’s commands.

Except for one moment, Rudy breezed through the obstacles just like any other race dog. Sure, a greyhound or a German shepherd can make good time, but for a dog that wasn’t built necessarily for speed, it’s easy to understand why the crowd is going wild.

It was through the tunnel, over the hurdle, and up the ramp for Rudy. More than his physical speed, one should also recognize his cognitive skills.

Being fast is one thing, but controlling when to turn and how high to jump while maintaining insane speed is another. Rudy truly broke the stereotypes people held for bulldogs.

According to the American Kennel Club, bulldogs are more than meets the eye.

They said that if you plan on owning one, you should be able to dedicate some time to walks and other kinds of exercises.

Bulldogs may look like sleepy couch potatoes but they enjoy exercise a whole lot much like Rudy does. Rudy’s final time? 46 seconds with a spare of 0.63.

Rudy’s video reached millions of views from fans worldwide.

“The way he entered into a Zen state on the start line knowing he would momentarily unleash all of his worldly power and God-given abilities, a trait all the great ones possess!” one comment said.

“It doesn’t matter if he didn’t win or was the fastest dog.” Said another, “Look at the crowd and how happy they were. Rudy brought a smile to everyone’s faces and that’s all that matters.”

“I love seeing a powerhouse of a dog achieving its potential. It’s easy to be a couch potato, but this guy is agile, athletic and so impressive; by any standard.” Another one said.
