Bulldog dominates WKC agility course and shatters his breed’s stereotype
For a lot of people, Bulldogs can often come across as lazy. They’re often noted for having low energy levels, and they tend to take things easy. With their stocky build, they are probably the last breed you’ll think about when it comes to speed and agility.
Rudy the bulldog, however, proved everyone wrong last year.
The English bulldog caught everyone off guard as he confidently went through the obstacle course in the 2019 WKC Masters Agility Course.
At first glance, you’d think that Von Rudolph Augustus Perkins is just another laid back dog. He looked so chill and relaxed with his human, Debra Perkins, while waiting for their turn at the run.
After Debra gave Rudy the signal, he went shooting off like lighting.
He was literally leaping through hoops and running up the ramps without any signs of fear. He was so focused and fast, it was hard to believe this stubby little guy was tackling his obstacles so well!
The best part?
Rudy looked so happy as he was going through the course! He was smiling all the way to the end.
Debra had to hustle to keep up with her Bulldog.
Even though he was fast as lighting, Debra tried her best to keep up. She was giving directions along the way, ensuring that Rudy was able to finish the course in the shortest possible time.
Then, there was a glitch.
Rudy got a bit over-excited and got confused about which way to go. Debra tried to guide him, but he jumped through her legs instead. It’s absolute hilarity!
Even with that little mistake, Rudy remained focused and confident. He completed the course in just 46.63 seconds or 51.63 with his little mix-up. In case you didn’t know, that is fast for a Bulldog.
Rudy’s performance now has nearly 3 million views.
Everyone who saw his rockstar performance was super impressed. One user commented:
“Rudy wasn’t there just to compete, he was there to crush stereotypes about Bulldogs.”
Another one said:
“I’m so impressed, I’ve never seen a Bulldog do agility, let alone run that fast or be that smart. Outstanding!”
One viewer praised Rudy’s owner.
“This bulldog is in great shape….not your ordinary bulldog…..one that moves as fast and as athletic as Rudy is rare. Great ownership I must say.”
An agility competition is a sporting event for dogs where different breeds go through obstacles.
They are judged based on accuracy and speed. The courses are particularly designed to measure a dog’s level of conditioning, athletic ability, and willingness to work with his owner.
To win the competitions, the dogs need to navigate around obstacles, charge through upright poles, and run through tunnels.
Because of how the courses are set up, the dogs will need their owners to guide them throughout the competition. Dogs who are well-trained won’t have too many problems following verbal prompts and hand signals.
When it comes to agility, Border Collie, Jack Russell Terrier, Australian Shepherd, Standard Poodle, and Sheltie are the top breeds.
You don’t always get to see Bulldogs excelling in agility.
Rudy, however, is a clear exception. He’s way too fast. See him shatter his agility course run in the video below. Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
