Big Poppa bulldog sad he can’t play with kids outside and internet is heartbroken
We are all feeling a bit blue from the lockdown, and some of us do a pretty good job of not showing any emotion about it. Others are wearing their feelings on their face and not hiding anything, just like Big Poppa, the bulldog.
When you see his sad face, all you want to do is give him a hug or a treat, anything that will make him happy again.
Big Poppa is a 3-year-old pup from Atlanta, Georgia, who recently took the internet by storm with his sad quarantine photos.
Rashida Ellis, the owner of Big Poppa, is also a costume designer for both television and film.
She is responsible for the uploaded photo to Instagram and Twitter.
In the photo, it shows Big Poppa looking down at the kids playing from his 6th-floor balcony with the absolute saddest doggy face you’ve ever seen.
He has been making attempts at getting the kids’ attention from the balcony, but it’s of no use. With social distancing in place, he won’t be able to have any of the human interactions he loves.
It’s a tough time for both humans and dogs. We all need some love sometimes.
“[The sadness] started during the lockdown because Pop would usually go outside and play with some of the children in the courtyard every day and also multiple people would pet him when we walk,” explained Ellis. “Ever since the lockdown, none of this happens and he tries to get their attention from the patio, but ends up defeated.”
Ellis says that the lockdown has made Big Poppa a bit lazy, and he sleeps much more than he used to. She can tell that he is not his usual happy go lucky self. She hasn’t seen this side of him before.
That frown has melted the internet, and they responded with tons of love for Big Poppa.
The cute but sad photo of Big Poppa went viral as soon as the picture finished uploading. Everyone can relate to it and began empathizing with Big Poppa, sending him lots of love and leaving Ellis blown away:
“I was very surprised, I woke up like ‘what has happened?’ It makes me feel good that Poppa is receiving so much love. I love sharing him with the world.” And the world loves him being shared with them.
In just one day, her tweet gathered over 650,000 likes and 72,500 retweets. Big Poppa’s Instagram also got some lovin’ with the photo receiving over 21,000 likes and almost a thousand comments.
Since then, Poppa has come around and put a smile on his face.
Ellis has helped cheer him up as she does whenever he is down:
“I sing songs and dance. We take extra walks. I also tell him to come sit with me and feed him treats. He likes to be fed!”
To cheer us all up, Ellis tells us about some of Big Poppa’s favorite toys and snacks just so we can imagine him as a happy boy.
“He loves Kong dog toys that are filled with peanut butter, and he loves oversized children’s’ stuffed animals. That’s his favorite. He also is a huge fan of doggy ice cream.”
No doubt, the photo makes us all want to reach into our screen and give Poppa a big hug. It’s something we could all use about now.
