Little boy is scared to go to school so bus driver holds his hand the whole the way
Kids react differently to the first day of school. Some of them feel excited about the idea of finally getting into a class with other kids. There are children who feel anxious and fearful of being separated from their parents. There are also kids who burst into tears even with just the idea of leaving home and being with strangers.
When 4-year-old Axel finally got on the bus for his first day of school, his reaction was similar to most kids.
On the way to the big yellow bus, everything seemed fine. In fact, Axel’s mom, Amy Johnson, didn’t notice anything wrong with his son on the way.
However, things changed when Axel approached the big vehicle.
After seeing the bus, the boy went super quiet. Then, to his mom’s surprise, he suddenly started crying.
She shared:
“He was super excited to go, but when the bus came around corner he was really quiet. The bus opened the door and I looked at him and he started crying.”
Amy was extra patient with her son.
She encouraged the boy. To make sure he safely got on the bus, she had to physically pick him up and set him on one of the seats. However, he was super afraid of the new environment. He was holding onto his mom tightly.
Axel didn’t want to let go.
Seeing the boy’s reaction, Isabel Lane, the bus driver, went to help him. As he was having a meltdown, she told the boy that he got this and that he’ll have so much fun at school.
She shared:
“She had set him down in the seat, and he kept trying to grab for her as she was trying to get off the bus. So I just stuck my hand behind the seat.”
Amy was amazed by the driver’s action.
She snapped a photo of Isabel holding the boy’s hands. For her, it was the perfect picture.
The precious photo easily went viral.
And that’s not surprising. You don’t get to see a lot of strangers helping out kids struggling with school phobia and separation anxiety. Surely, this driver’s action is a reflection of her kind heart.
The Augusta Police Department posted it on their Facebook page and there, it earned thousands of likes. Several people left good comments, too.
One of them said:
“This wonderful gesture of a really nice bus driver is going around the world. It’s so nice to see that the world still has wonderful people on it. Thank you Miss Lane. God bless you ♥️”
Another one commented:
“Well done Isabel, what a credit to the world you are. A simple gesture but felt the world over by those of us with children!”
There was also this person who said:
“Ugh this makes my heart so happy if this were my son I’d be in tears hugging this bus driver! Thank you for being there for this child… it’s gotta be a rough transition for him.”
