Driver saves elderly man’s life when he realizes why he’s not boarding the bus
As a bus driver pulled up to a stop, he noticed that an old man wasnât boarding â that’s when he realized the senior was in danger.
Mike Blair is a bus driver from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Driving buses for several years already, Blair has established relationships with his passengers. This relationship with people enabled him to spot if something is out of the ordinary, or if some passengers are not quite okay.
He was driving through his usual route one August day when he pulled up to one of his designated stops.
After the passengers climbed on board, one of them caught his eye.
It seemed strange that the old man remained seated even as his bus pulled up.
He narrated what he saw to KSNV News:
“This one gentleman he didn’t board. He seemed like he started to kinda grasp the wall there.”
And to make matters a bit more urgent, the old man was sitting in the scorching Las Vegas heat.
He described the situation as to be âsmoking hotâ with temperatures he estimated to be around 110 degrees.
People wouldâve passed by the elderly man without knowing what he was going through – but not Blair.
He shared with Fox 5 that the signs of dehydration can be confusing but he knew the man needed help.
He assisted him to get inside the bus and sat him down in front of the AC vent so he could cool down a bit. Then, he grabbed a bottle of water from his lunchbox and offered it to the man.
After around 10 minutes, the man got back to his feet. Blair insisted for him to stay on the bus longer just to be sure but the man said he was doing better.
The old man thanked him as he walked off the bus and shared with him that heâs 92 years old.
A man of such age would fare less against the scorching elements but fortunately, Blair was there to help him when he needed it the most.
After the incident, Blair carried on his routes not knowing that heâs about become internet famous because of this one little act of random kindness.
Blair received a phone call from his employer following the incident, and he admitted that he was a bit nervous. He thought he got into trouble, which his boss Francis Julien laughed off.
He said that Blair has been one of their most upstanding drivers so Blair worrying about whether he got into trouble should be the least of his concerns.
Apparently, one of his passengers snapped a photo of his good deed.
It didnât take long before it took off on social media where it ended up being on his employerâs radar.
Blair didnât know about the photo, nor Twitter for that matter, and it says a lot about his character.
The bus driver didnât do this for the likes and the shares. He just did a little act of kindness because it was the right thing to do.
