Bus station offers new beds to homeless dogs and a warm place to sleep
Unfortunately, not every four-footer gets to grow up in a safe, warm, and loving home.
There are millions of homeless dogs and cats around the planet, and it’s even estimated that the number is over 70 million stray animals in the United States alone. It’s an absolutely alarming statistic, and that’s not even counting the rest of the world.
Brazil is another country where there are a bunch of stray dogs and cats.
There, it’s pretty difficult to even estimate how many there are. Only a minority of them end up in shelters – most of these poor animals have to look out for themselves on the streets, which is anything but an easy thing to do.
The situation is particularly dire in the slums, as there is a particularly huge need for shelters and safe places in those areas.
Even though the need for shelters in the country is still high, there are some heartwarming initiatives to help out some of the strays in need. This special bus station is one of them. It was transformed into a small safe haven for a couple of stray cats.
It came at just the right time too, as the winter approached and a lot of stray animals would have to be on the lookout for some warmth against the harsh and cold weather.
At a Barreirinha bus terminal in Curitiba, a couple employees teamed up to transform one of the bus stations and make it friendlier for stray dogs.
They just couldn’t stand the thought of stray pups getting lost in the cold and possibly suffering from the low temperatures.
Even though this single bus station won’t make a huge difference on a grand scale in the country, it would be enough to warm a couple of the nearby strays, and that’s what matters. Every single one of them counts.
At the bus terminal, employees have set up food and water stations, as well as three dog beds which were repurposed out of old tires.
It’s comfortable, cozy, warm and the aesthetic even fits perfectly with the bus station.
There are three dogs who seem to have found this place and called it their new home.
The employees decided to name them Max, Pitoco, and Zoinho.
While these employees might not able to give them a forever home, they’re giving them a warm place to stay during the harsh winters and are making sure they stay well-fed and hydrated.
It’s an absolutely heartwarming act, and it even made the local news.
Fabiana Rosa is a local politician and known animal activist who gave some attention to the bus station online. Her post has actually gone viral and it didn’t take long before it started making headlines, even internationally.
She especially wanted to say “thank you” to those people who make the world a better place for our homeless furry friends.
“Congratulations to the terminal staff, everyone understands that these angels are there and have a right to be,” the woman posted on her local Facebook page. “So many companies in Curitiba could follow this example, adopting a pet. Of course it is not the ideal, but at least there are those who are looking after them.”
It’s absolutely tragic to see so many unfortunate dogs and cats without a home, but at the same time, it’s heartwarming to see initiatives like this to keep many of them safe and that, my friends, makes all the difference.
