Bus station gives stray dogs a place to stay when it gets cold outside
The large number of stray dogs has become a problem worldwide. Living on the street has left many of these dogs hungry and searching for shelter. Fortunately, there are organizations, businesses, and people who are trying to help them live a little more comfortably.
Strays on the street
With over 200 million stray dogs living on the streets around the world, it is more important than ever for communities to band together and help them out.
A bus station with a heart
So, when it got cold in the Brazilian city of Curitiba, the Barreirinha bus terminal opened its doors to some of the city’s stray population. The employees could not just stand by while the dogs had to sleep outside in the frigid weather. Taking action, they decided to bring the three local dogs inside to stay.
Three lucky stray dogs
The three dogs that stayed at the bus station during the winter were named Max, Pitoco, and Zoinho by the employees working at the station. Not only did the employees give them a place to sleep, but they also provided each of the stray dogs with a comfortable bed and warm blankets. They even offered them food and water in addition to the shelter and bed.
The beds were simply made – only using tires lined with blankets set-up by the employees. These DIY beds seemed to be just what the dogs needed as they settled comfortably into their warm confines for some much-needed rest.
A local politician hears of the heartwarming gesture
Local politician Fabiane Rosa heard about the station’s show of compassion and praised both the organization and its employees. She even had pictures taken and posted to her Facebook page, where they quickly went viral. In the caption, she discussed the station’s selflessness. Together, both the photos and caption garnered over 13,000 likes and 11,000 shares. Here is a translation of the post from its original Portuguese:
“Congratulations to the terminal staff, everyone understands that these angels are there and have a right to be. So many companies in Curitiba could follow this example, adopting a pet. Of course, it is not the ideal, but at least there are those who are looking after them.”
Hopefully, more businesses will do the same
The best thing about the bus station employees’ actions is that it didn’t take much effort – and I am sure the dogs were grateful to no longer be out in the cold. Hopefully other businesses in the area will catch on and continue with the trend so, at the very least, these stray animals can have somewhere to stay in the cold.
