Butcher shop owner lets stray animals come into store for meat scraps
He is curing homeless animals’ hunger problems one slice of meat scrap at a time.
Ikram Korkmazer, a 51-year-old meat shop owner from Turkey is on a mission – to feed every single homeless animal that comes into his store.

It all started when a stray cat came to Ikram’s store, it was clear to him that the poor cat was looking for food. The feline then climbed up to his counter and started drooling over the sumptuous slices of fresh meat on display.
The storeowner felt nothing but pity for the hungry-looking feline that’s why he fed it with some meat scraps. It didn’t take long before he fell in love with the cat, turns out, that wasn’t the first and last time that they’d see each other.

He eventually named the homeless cat, Yeşim, who continued dropping by his shop for some food. When the cat gave birth, she even brought her kittens over so they could all be fed by the kind shop owner. Thankfully, Ikram didn’t disappoint them.
“I was feeding her,” Ikram said. “When she gave birth to a kitten, she started bringing it to my workplace—they came together. She would stand on two legs, look at the meat on the counter, and ask for meat. She started to come to ask for food five or six times a day, standing on two legs. She wanted mostly spleen, heart, kidney and loved beef.”
Unfortunately, Yeşim got sick and passed away.

Despite the absence of the mother cat, Yeşim’s kitten still continued going to Ikram’s meat store with hopes of being showered by the owner’s kindness. Ikram’s heart was pure that he continued giving the kittens his meat scraps so they could survive every day without hunting by themselves for food.

He got emotionally attached to Yeşim that he vowed to continue what he’s been doing. He even named his shop after her, his shop that’s now called ‘Yesim Meat Gallery’ is famous not only for its fresh meat but also for its advocacy for feeding homeless animals.

Since then, more and more stray cats and even dogs found their way to solving their hunger problems by going to Ikram’s meat shop. There, they’re never turned down, they get fed every time they go there. Their tummies were filled with food and their hearts with genuine love.
On a daily basis, there would be 7 to 8 cats and 8 to 10 dogs that would come to visit the meat shop to not just taste the meat but also Ikram’s kindness. They are receiving a variety of meat scraps, from kidneys, spleens, and hearts. All the neglected animals finally got a taste of something that they have been longing for from a person – genuine care.

His good deed towards the animals didn’t just circulate around his area and his country, but also all across the globe. To keep people updated, he created his own account on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
Although he also got criticized at some point, it didn’t stop him from feeding his furry visitors whenever they visit.
“I have instilled the love for animals in this world, and it makes me proud to introduce Turkey as an animal-loving country,” Korkmazer said.
