Massage these 7 stress points to quickly relax a fussy or crying baby
Reflexology, also known as zone therapy, is a medical practice where pressure is applied to specific areas of the hands and feet to relieve pain and discomfort.
Recently, people have been turning to the practice to soothe a fussy baby. Who wouldn’t want that?
Below are six massage techniques that can be used on a child’s foot to help with various areas of discomfort and pain. It’s advised that before beginning any of the following, the child should be relaxed and that blood flood be increased in the child’s foot.
This can be achieved by a soothing foot rub beforehand or with a warm bath. Also, be advised that nerve endings may be sensitive, particularly in a sick child so handle with extra care!
Head and Teeth
Headaches and toothaches are the worst.
To alleviate the pain of a teething child or a child, massage the tips of their toes. The best part about this massage is that you can even do it while they’re asleep as they’ll be less likely to awake from teething pain.
Sinuses
Sinus pain is awful to anybody who deals with it. But to a child, it can feel like the end of the world.
The pressure points for the sinuses are at the center of the baby’s toes. Apply gentle pressure to alleviate sinus pain as well as symptoms from cold and allergy pain.
Chest
Chest congestion is terrible. Not only is it a nuance but it can be extremely uncomfortable. To relieve this discomfort, massage the pads of the feet, just under the toes and above the arch. Apply gentle pressure in a circular motion to relieve discomfort.
Stomach Pain (Solar plexus)
If your child is suffering from an upset stomach, spasms, tightness, or having trouble breathing, a light massage can help relieve discomfort associated with those symptoms.
The solar plexus is a collection of nerves hidden between your stomach and lungs that are connected to the point at the center of the foot.
Abdomen (Upper)
Abdominal pain is quite bothersome. To help alleviate problems of the stomach such as constipation, heartburn, and indigestion, massage the space between the middle of your baby’s foot and the pads of their feet.
Abdomen (Lower)
Some of the symptoms of lower abdominal issues are gas and bloating. To help with this, massage between the middle of the child’s foot and heel as that is the sweet spot for lower abdominal pain.
Pelvis
Since babies grow fast, their hips take on a lot of changes. Thus, pain and tightness in the hips are common. This can lead to posture issues so it’s important to help alleviate any discomfort, if able. For pelvic pain, rubbing the heel can help. It can also help with sore stomachs and constipation.
It can be difficult finding a time when your child isn’t still and relaxed. Therefore, try these methods while they are asleep or lounging in a rocker or a sling.
As always, if you’re concerned that your child has something serious, seek medical attention immediately.
