Meet Carrot – the cute cat going viral for giving his humans anxiety

Cats do the most mischievous and hilarious things. We’ve all seen a cat knock a vase off a table while making direct eye contact.
They sit in the middle of the stairs or stand directly behind us in the kitchen, almost causing us to trip and fall to our deaths while making their dinner. They sneak their little paws under doors, climb the curtains, destroy the Christmas tree…
The list of their little tricks is endless!

But this unique little cat takes the cake… the carrot-cake, that is.
Carrot the cat recently went viral for his sneaky attempt at getting into the fridge.
Unfortunately, in a hilarious sort of way, he’s also giving his owners anxiety.
His humans posted a photo of the attempted fridge-infiltration to show the world how hilarious their sneaky cat is. But also why they now live in fear of harming the little guy every time they open the fridge door.

It’s common to leave notes on the fridge when we need to remember something. It might say “we need more milk”, or more recently, in quarantine, “you’re just eating because you’re bored”.
You rarely have to leave notes inside the fridge, though.
Even still, Carrot’s parents had to make the call because his sneaky little paw kept creeping through the cracks whenever they opened the door.
You can see their sign, all in BIG capital letters to catch every fridge-visitor’s attention and to be very clear:
“CHECK FOR CAT ARM B4 CLOSING”
If they don’t – little Carrot runs a very serious risk of losing a paw!

But he’s willing to risk it for a snack and, honestly, we can relate.
Carrot’s owners adopted him after he was found wandering at a gas station and brought into the local animal hospital. They happened to have a friend who worked at the hospital who was taking care of little Carrot until he found his forever home.
The friend brought the cat to their apartment for a visit, and it was love at first sight.
They officially adopted him a few weeks later.

Based on his behavior and how he was found, they believe he lived a pretty rough life before he came into their lives.
It’s the couple’s first cat and they are both enamored with their little orange tabby.
“He is both of our first cat and our best friend and we feel extremely lucky to have found him,” they told Bored Panda.
His little mischievous attempt to get into the fridge came as no surprise to his parents. His big personality and constant desire to play always keeps them on their toes.
“He loves tag, play biting your hand, being chased, and playing fetch with his tiger. He is also very clingy. If he’s not napping in his closet, he’s never more than a foot or two away.”

He’s also a big fan of food (aren’t we all?) and using treats to get his attention has helped them train him to do some cool cat tricks.
His love for food gives us a little more context for the funny viral photo.

Carrot’s owners also wanted to comfort us with the fact that he’s never actually been hurt this way. Phew!
“No, he has never been hurt by this (lots of people on the internet seem to think that) and luckily we are only a house of 2, are very careful, and we know when he’s doing it. The sign was put up as a reminder.”

Because it’s the internet and people always need to have an opinion, the couple has received a flood of comments claiming the photo was staged.
“If it was staged, we would’ve cleaned out our fridge!”
