When Sophia went to the toy shop, she selected her favorite doll. The cashier thought that she had made an odd choice, merely because of the doll’s skin tone.

Sophia’s parents have always taught her to accept others for who they are. Because of this, she can look past superficial differences, like skin color.

Recently, Sophia proved to her parents and the entire world that this message is really resonating.

It all began when Sophia hit an important milestone. She had successfully used her potty for the first time. Her parents decided to reward her with a trip to the toy store.

Sophia looked down the aisles and immediately gravitated to the baby dolls. Then she saw one doll that was dressed up like a doctor. Sophia loves playing doctors, so naturally, she picked that one out.

“There was one dressed like a doctor, so she immediately fell in love with it and had to have it, because that’s her in a nutshell.” – Brandi Benner, Sophia’s mom.

The doll, which Sophia would later name Megan, had a dark skin tone. Sophia hadn’t considered this in her decision to pick her. But one of the store’s employees thought that this was incredibly odd.

At the checkout, the cashier looked at the doll and looked at Sophia. Then she asked, “Are you sure that this is the doll you want honey?” Sophia was confused. So the cashier went on: “She doesn’t look like you. We have lots of other dolls here that look more like you.”

Sophia’s mom, Brandi, was shocked to hear this. She was about to say something. But Sophia got there first. The child said, “She’s a doctor like I’m a doctor. And she’s a pretty girl, and I’m a pretty girl.”

The cashier had no response to that. Instead, she just completed the transaction.

Brandi was incredibly proud of her daughter.

When she and Sophia had taken the doll out of the box, the mom uploaded a photo of the daughter playing with the doll, along with an explanation of what Sophia had said, to Instagram.

Soon, people all over the world had liked and commented on the post. They loved what Sophia had said.

Pretty soon, the local news had contacted Brandi. They made a news report about Sophia’s story.

A YouTube upload of this story also went viral. To date, it has gained over 3.2 million views. It also has more than 103,000 likes and 14,200 comments. People have been saying things like this:

When Sophia grows up, she wants to be a doctor. Hopefully, she will achieve this dream. But she’s sure to excel in whatever career path she chooses with her positive and loving outlook on life.

All parents should teach their children to be like Sophia. Children can be kind and they can be cruel. But it’s vitally important for them to know that they should always choose kindness and be accepting of other people.
