There are some situations where you teach your kids things and others where they teach you things! Part of being a parent is always encouraging and being available for your kids when they need you. The great part is when you get to seem them act and NOT need your help!

When confronted with racism, this kid handled the situation like a pro!

Sophia Leilani is a 2-year-old girl who had a bit of a run-in with a cashier at the toy store. The result has gone viral and is a great story for any parents out there with young kids.

Taking her daughter to Target for a reward, Brandi didn’t expect what came next.

Brandi had been working with Sophie on potty training for a bit now. One of the best ways to help with training and discipline with your kids is positive reinforcement! When Sophie hit a great milestone in her potty training, Brandi took her out to get a toy.

Letting her walk around the toy section, Sophie got to pick out a toy she liked.

Wanting to be a doctor when she grows up, Sophie found a doll that was a baby doctor! At home, she is always giving her mom check-ups and even has a toy stethoscope.

Finding a doll with a doctor’s clothes, she picked it out and brought it to her mom.

Wanting to add this new doll as an addition to her already substantial toy collection, she was excited to have one that was a doctor! When picking out her doll, skin color wasn’t something she was concerned with. After deciding on her doll, she walked up to the cashier with a little black doll that was a doctor.

Thinking nothing of it, the family went to go check out.

Strangely enough, the cashier pointed to the doll that Sophie was holding and asked her if it was a gift for a friend. Brandi explained to the cashier that it was a reward for a potty training milestone. Brandi detailed the conversation:

“Are you sure this is the doll you want honey?” Brandi recounts the cashier asking. “Because she doesn’t look like you. We have lots of other dolls here that look more like you.”

Brandi was furious and didn’t know what to say.

Brandi was positively steaming and was about to respond when her little daughter spoke up.

“She’s a doctor, like I’m a doctor. She’s a pretty girl, and I’m a pretty girl.”

Thankfully, the cashier dropped the topic after that. There isn’t much use in trying to argue an agenda with a 2-year-old!

Posting the story on Facebook, it soon went viral.

The story garnered quite a bit of attention! One of the things that Brandi highlighted was the different responses that she and her daughter took.

“I feel like the media is so addicted to negativity that we tend to harden ourselves and assume the worst in others. But you guys, all I have seen and felt from all of this is pure LOVE! (Aside from those who want to go off on the cashier, lol.)”

The way that Sophia responded disarmed the entire situation.

We all learn from the kids in our lives! When they eventually can respond on their own and teach us something, we should all listen in for their innocent wisdom.
