Cat defies expectations when she takes in 4 orphaned baby squirrels

Some animals simply have a giving spirit, giving of themselves even after giving birth. A cat in Bakhchysarai, in southern Crimea, has proven this fact perfectly by adopting some unlikely babies after giving birth to four of her own.

The cat, named Pusha, had just delivered a litter of her own, four tiny kittens.

After someone found four abandoned baby squirrels, they decided to see if Pusha would take them in.

Otherwise, the squirrels faced certain death.

The group took the baby squirrels in a box to a tourist destination named Miniature Park. It was here that Push and her kittens lived.

Initially, the group thought that the pairing would not work out.

Pusha seemed to get upset whenever the squirrels would touch her and the baby squirrels were at first afraid to come near Pusha.

This was probably because cats and squirrels are usually enemies in the wild. In many cases, a cat will actually chase a squirrel.

This can sometimes result in injury since full-grown squirrels are about a third or half the size of a cat. While not common, squirrels can sometimes carry rabies, which can infect a cat if they are exposed to the disease.

But the baby squirrels really posed no risk to Pusha.

In fact, as Pusha grew accustomed to the baby squirrels, her demeanor started to change. With a little help from the people involved in matching them up, Pusha soon had welcomed the squirrels into her litter.

Pusha started allowing the baby squirrels to nurse alongside her own kittens while the staff at Miniature Park supplement Pusha’s milk with bottles of milk.

Pusha even allows the little squirrels to cuddle up to her when it is time to take a nap. Pusha even started cleaning the squirrels with her tongue, treating them as if they are her own babies.

She also plays with the squirrels and allows them to climb on her.

This all goes to prove that a mother’s instinct is strong, even when it comes to animals of different species. And like all mothers, Pusha loves all of her kids equally.
