When in the wild, animals tend to congregate with others of their kind. Cats, for example, form colonies, sharing a common food source and protecting the communal territory together.

But that is not always the case as was shown with one abandoned puppy who was taken in by a group of stray cats.

A colony of cats

The cats were captured exhibiting their compassion towards another animal species in a video.

In the video, it is explained how the filmmakers feed a colony of stray cats in a local park.

The park is popular with people looking to quickly and easily get rid of pets that they no longer want.

The filmmakers also try to sterilize any cats that they can catch to help keep the population down. If such steps weren’t taken, the colony would grow to an unmanageable size, making it impossible for the group to feed all of them.

Rescued by the filmmakers

On one such trip, a puppy comes out when the filmmakers start to give out food to the cats.

The group looks around for any signs of a mother but quickly realizes the little guy had been abandoned upon finding none. It seems that the cats had adopted him and were helping him to survive.

Naming him Zhorik, they grab the very friendly puppy.

While he was very sweet and friendly with both humans and cats, the park was no place for a young puppy. Grabbing him, the filmmakers take him with them once they are finished.

Maybe it was his sweet nature that endeared him to the cats in the colony. Most cats are very territorial, but since the puppy didn’t represent much of a threat, they decided to accept him into their group instead.

Zhorik gets checked out

The group decided to take Zhorik to a local vet for a checkup.

Once at the vet, he is given the necessary vaccines and treated for parasites. He would need to be healthy if he was to be adopted.

The rescue starts the long process of finding Zhorik a new home. It should be easy since he is such a friendly, and charming, puppy.

Zhorik makes a new friend

While he waits, Zhorik is introduced to an older dog and they quickly become friends. While the cats did a good job taking care of him, he needs an older dog to show him the ropes of being a canine.

Zhorik gets adopted

Soon, thanks to Zhorik’s photogenic nature, he is able to find a new, permanent home. Thankfully, the cats took him in or who knows what would have happened to him. They kept him going long enough for his rescuers to find him.

A video of Zhorik has gone viral, getting over 1.6 million views on YouTube.
