Stray cat who lost her ears gets adorable crocheted ears and a brand-new family

Animals that have sustained disfiguring injuries usually have a hard time finding forever homes. This cat shows why more people should consider pets that look different.

When Dane County Humane society rescued a stray cat, Lady, they were shocked. She was in a terrible state. Her years on the streets had been rough.

The Dane County Humane Society took her to the vet. Most of Lady’s issues could be treated. But her ear flaps were chronically infected and had hematomas. The vet had no other option than to amputate them.

The operation saved Lady’s life. But the rescue workers were worried that Lady would have a hard time getting adopted.

However, one of the Dane County Humane Society team members, Ash Collins, came up with an incredible idea to make Lady more adoptable. Her hobby was knitting, so she decided to crochet Lady a new pair of ear flaps. There’s no denying that the crocheted ears look incredibly cute!

The shelter then posted a picture of Lady wearing the crocheted ears, and it did something amazing.

People went crazy for the cat. The post was flooded with comments.

Pretty soon, people were desperate to adopt Lady.

Within hours, Lady and her new ears were on their way to a forever home!

All it took was a little ingenuity from a team member to make Lady the most in-demand animal at the shelter. Luckily, every animal that goes into that shelter is treated with love and care.

Collins, who created the ears, later told CNN that the “Staff and volunteers at Dane County Humane Society consistently go above and beyond for the animals in our care.”

Lady is happier than ever in her home. She has almost forgotten what life on the streets was like!

Of course, many animals around the world struggle to find their own forever homes due to the way that they look.

Too many people are quick to judge animals based on their appearance and not their personalities. That’s such a shame, as clearly, the animals have often not done anything wrong. Instead, circumstances beyond their control mean that their chances of finding the love that they deserve are remote.

Hematomas, which are what contributed to Lady’s ear flaps being removed, can be very bad for cats to have. A hematoma is a thick mass of blood that can clot anywhere on a cat’s body.

If you see a hematoma on your cat, you should take immediate action, as that will minimize the chances of permanent disfigurement. Ear hematomas are usually treated with surgery. Infections, allergies or foreign objects getting lodged in a cat’s ear are the usual causes of ear hematomas. It is important for you to discover what has caused the hematomas to ensure that your cat gets healthy again.

Just draining the swelling of a hematoma is usually only a temporary fix for the problem. It will often result in the hematomas returning within a few days. And the longer a hematoma is left untreated, the greater the chances are of it permanently disfiguring the cat.
