Male cats are not commonly known for their paternal instincts; on the contrary, they seem to act quite aggressive towards their little ones.

Both domestic and feral cats are usually found to kill kittens, especially those that they do not father, in an attempt to get rid of the opponent’s genes- an instinct that they bear from when they used to be wild animals. But, even if they don’t kill them, they hardly ever get involved in raising them as do their mothers.

Due to these reasons, and given that females are usually more caring and protective towards their little ones, cat owners are advised to keep newborns away from male cats or at least don’t allow unsupervised access to them. However, it is recommended to gradually introduce the kittens to their dad if he shows fatherly instincts.

Thuy Duong Panda, from Hanoi, Thailand, knew that male cats could be dangerous for the little ones, so when her cat gave birth to four healthy kittens, she decided to play it safe and remove the dad from the room the little ones were after birth.

But, daddy cat was determined to see his babies and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He cried for a long time before he was again allowed into the room where his babies and their mother were.

According to the press, the woman seems to have adopted the orange tabby male and his “soulmate”, a patterned calico female one year before the event. The two cats were inseparable and seemed to share a special bond, so much so that they were referred to as “husband and wife”.

Well, the term might sound a bit exaggerated or cheesy considering we’re talking about cats, but they really seemed to share feelings of mutual affection, while the male cat proved his love by standing guard and comforting the female during the process of labor.

The sweetest moment of all? When mom and dad slept in each other’s arms- or rather, paws- with their kittens snuggling in the middle. This moment is so cute we can’t stop looking at their picture.

Photos of the “happy couple” and “new parents” were posted on Imgur, where they attracted lots of attention and comments by the community.

“I have never seen a father cat in my life!! This is beautiful. Thank you for sharing,” someone wrote, while someone else even compared the male cat to a first-time human dad: “He looks stressed, then caring , then attentive, then content.. just like hooman fathers going through the same experience.”

However, the most iconic comment came from user Pretzelwagon, who proclaimed that this was “a better love story than Twilight”. Well, we might just not confirm not deny this.

But the dad’s role wasn’t limited to the day when the kittens were born. He didn’t leave his family side for more than minutes to use the litter box or drink some water for days after birth. How amazing is that!

According to the cats’ owner, the little ones were going to be given away in pairs so that they didn’t miss their family so much.
