Cat gets thrown off a bridge, then a boat captain comes to the rescue
Even though plenty of feline four-footers are often in the loving arms of their owners, there are some cats who are much less fortunate. Some people should just never come anywhere near an animal, and unfortunately, this is one of those cases.
Captain Jordan Smith was minding his own business on the water when he suddenly saw someone throw a cat off a bridge.
At first, Jordan had no clue that is was a living animal that was thrown into the water, and simply thought it was someone dumping a piece of garbage. The man has seen dozens of people dispose of their junk via the bridge, as he owns Let’s Fish Destin Charters in Destin, Florida and spends a lot of time on or near the water.
The object made a noticeable ‘splat’ in the water, and the boat captain wanted to investigate.
“I just saw something out of the corner of my eye,” Jordan said to NWF Daily News. “I saw some movement. Then I heard splat! Splat! I thought someone threw some trash down.”
It’s a good thing he did because it wasn’t just a piece of garbage thrown off the bridge, it was a neglected and abused four-footer!
He figured that he’d find another black trash bag – one of many over the past years – but his heart sank when he discovered it was a living animal.
The poor cat was absolutely terrified and scared, and her glowing orange eyes absolutely stood out, according to the captain.
“I saw these little orange eyes looking at me and I reached down with my dip net and got it,” he said. “I picked it up and it latched on and didn’t want to let go. [Her] little heart was beating really fast.”
The captain then dropped everything he was doing and immediately tried to get this feline out of her predicament.
Jordan grabbed one of his nets and was able to scoop the anxious cat out of the water before it was too late. The poor thing was absolutely shivering and shaking, and Jordan knew that he needed to get her to the shore as fast as possible. In fact, he was so focussed on saving the animal that he accidentally hit the bridge with his boat twice, but luckily his ship was quite sturdy.
Back on dry ground, he took the poor kitten to HarborWalk, which is an area filled with shops. Because Jordan was still busy with his charter, he headed to a friend named Nicole Manard who agreed to take care of the feline for a while. She was absolutely shocked that someone would do such a horrible thing and took care of her the best she could in the meantime.
When the boat captain finished his charter later that day, the pair headed towards a veterinarian to make sure that the feline was healthy.
When the cat was declared fully healthy by the vet, Jordan decided to pick her up and adopt her. The boat captain was absolutely smitten about this cat and wanted nothing more than to take care of her permanently.
He also gave her a fitting name: Miracle.
Ever since Jordan took her in, she’s been doing extremely well and loves her life at home. She even made a best friend in her canine sibling Aspen, who’s a Husky-German Shepherd. They just love playing around together!
As for the person who threw Miracle off the bridge, police tried looking for them but no suspect was identified or found. It looks like this horrible person won’t face justice, but at least this adorable kitten now has a loving owner she deserves and who would do anything for her.
