Vet calls woman and asks her about “Boo,” and she’s flooded with memories from 13 years ago
When Janet Adamowicz of Harrogate, West Yorks, and her family decided to get a pet, a one-year-old tabby seemed to be the perfect match for them.
Janet, her husband, and their two adoptive children welcomed little Boo in their family back in 2001.
The cat was very sociable, playful, and adventurous, and she enjoyed the outdoors. That’s why she spent plenty of her time outside of the home.
âBoo was very lively as a young kitten and enjoyed the outdoors and adventuringâbut would always return home,â Janet told SWNS.
But her owners knew she would always come back at the end of the day. Until one day in 2005, when Boo went outside to play as usual, but she never came back.
At first, nobody really got upset or worried about her, since it was so like her to just go out and play that they thought she would soon return home. Yet, days and then weeks passed by and the family started to realize that the cat wasn’t to come back.
Then, they started plastering “missing” posters around the neighborhood and asking if anyone had seen their favorite pet, but she was nowhere to be seen. At that time, Janet received lots of phone calls from people who believed they had seen Boo, but when she got to them, she was disappointed to find out it was another cat.
“I was really heartbroken,” Adamowicz said, “and thought about her so much over 13 years.”
So, as time went by, Janet tried to come to terms with the fact that her cat was gone and that she probably wouldn’t see her again. By that time, she had realized that Boo might not even be alive anymore. And that realization hurt really bad.
A few years went on, and Janet decided to add a new member to the family, so she adopted a three-legged kitty, Ollie, in 2008. Then, a few years later, in 2014, she adopted yet another fluffball, Tessie.
Janet and the family had moved on with their lives, although they never forgot about Boo, by 2018, when Janet got a phone call from a vet in East Yorks.
âI got a phone call from a vet in Pocklington, to say that my stray cat had turned up,â she said during an interview. âI had two cats and they were still at home with me, and I lived 40 miles away.â
When she was told that her cat had been found, she was really skeptical, as both her cats were at home with her, but then the vet explained that they had scanned the cat’s microchip and had found her name was Boo and she belonged to her.
Janet couldn’t believe it! First of all, the cat was too old by then, and it also sounded weird that she had managed to get that far away from home. Yet, she still had to make the trip to the vet clinic to see for herself if it was her own cat.
Indeed, the cat that had just been found was Boo, and as everyone said, it was as if the cat still remembered her owner.
“Everybody says she just recognized me;” Adamowicz said. “Whether that is the case I donât know, but she was really really friendly.”
The woman took Boo home and, after a necessary adaptation period, the two were once again inseparable.
The microchip made the world of a difference for this kitty and her mom, who were reunited after so many years.
