Cat hotel offers free stays for cats during the coronavirus pandemic
Within weeks, the novel coronavirus has managed to get the entire world in its grasp, and governments around the world are no urging people to stay at home in order to prevent the spread of the deadly virus. With lockdown issued left and right, people can’t go outside of their homes except for necessities until further notice.
The issues are being taken so that the health systems are less likely to fail, as there is limited capacity in hospitals to treat patients with the COVID-19 disease caused by the virus. With hundreds of thousands of people infected all around the world and an average infection rate of three people per person, it’s easy to see why governments are doing what they can to stop the spread.
People who are tested positive and are severely ill will need to be hospitalized.
One cat hotel in Canada wants to take one worry away for cat owners who need to stay at the hospital for weeks at a time.
If there’s one thing that the corona crisis has shown, it’s that there are a lot of people with a good heart, even and especially during these troubling times. The Victoria Cat Hotel seems like an absolutely heavenly place to reside in for a cat, and the person who runs it now wants to open their doors to furry felines free of charge due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you live in the neighborhood and you have to be hospitalized or can’t take care of your furry friend(s) anymore, they can stay at the cat hotel, completely free of charge. Normally, a day-long stay at the cat residence costs between fifteen and twenty dollars a day.
The owners of the cat hotel posted their message on Facebook, and it didn’t take long before it was picked up by a few local news outlets.
“COVID 19 UPDATE: I’ll give free board to any cat who’s owner is admitted to hospital,” their Facebook page reads.
Pets are often forgotten in the chaos that this global pandemic causes, but this cat hotel aims to at least try to take one worry away in case cat owners need to be hospitalized.
The accommodation fee is completely waived, although owners will still need to provide food and the cats also have to be either vaccinated or pet-approved. There are between four and eight separate suites for cats and their families, and there’s a bunch of cat furniture in there so they definitely won’t get bored. The owners also take special needs into account, so that felines are as comfortable as possible and they truly feel like they have a ‘home away from home’.
There’s also a large playroom where all the cats can hang out together, and if you’d like to check up on your cat, people can also check up on their feline four-footer thanks to an online kitty cam.
“I’m having lots of cancellations of course,” owner Judith Quinlan said to Peninsula News Review. “So I thought I’d put the space to good use.”
