Cat that was missing for 10 years is finally reunited with her owner
Reunions are always special. These events are proof that distance nor time can separate those who care for each other. Often, when loved ones see each other for the first time after a long break, they just pick off where they left.
Mishka and Georgia were best buddies
Georgia Tsatsaris from Chadstone, Australia had a Blue Point cat called Mishka. She took care of her feline very well and made sure her needs are met. Georgia also invested in a microchip as prescribed by the Australian law. She was certain that if her beloved pet got lost, it would be easy to retrieve her.
However, even if Georgia had taken the proper precautions she could not avoid her cat’s fate. In an unfortunate turn of events, Mishka went missing after she left her outdoor enclosure in 2010. She was not immediately found, which left her mommy devastated but resigned.
It was a special day in May
On May 22, 2020, Georgia received a phone call from the Port Melbourne vet. They told her that a stray cat was found struggling for her life in an industrial area. The cat happened to be Mishka who they were able to identify via her microchip. She was finally found ten years after she disappeared!
Mishka was in a bad shape
Being a stray cat for ten years took its toll on the lovely Blue Point. She was very bony and weak. She was abnormally thin and frail-looking.
When Georgia saw her cat for the first time, she broke down. All the excitement turned to sadness when she saw how her baby looked. As she told the Sun Herald and was quoted by People:
“I have no idea what she’s been through which breaks my heart but when I went to see her for the first time, I said her name and she let out a soft meow as she curled up to me and rubbed her face against my cheek…”
Mishka needed medical care
Even though they have been away from each other for ten years, Georgia immediately embraced her role as Mishka’s mom. She took over her kitty’s medical needs. Upon careful analysis, they discovered that in order for Mishka to go home she needed to regain her weight, fight a respiratory infection, and fuel up on liquids.
The fight was expensive
Although Georgia was able to meet most of Mishka’s medical costs, her cat’s health situation needed longer treated than she was prepared for financially. She needed to ramp up more funds. So, she bravely set up a Go Fund Me account to cover her cat’s medical bills.
Many kind-hearted citizens were touched by their story. So, in less than a week, Georgia was able to raise more than $2700. It was definitely the boost they needed to help Mishka return to health.
It was worth it
With the money raised, the heroic cat’s condition slowly improved. She was gaining weight and her respiratory infection was getting better. However, the hard life she lived on the streets took its toll. On June 12, Georgia posted this update:
Hi everybody,
We want to let you all know that sadly little Mishka lost her battle and has passed away. She had kidney failure and other underlying issues that she could not overcome, she passed away feeling warm, safe and loved. Mishka has been cremated and will finally be going home tomorrow.
We cannot thank you all enough for your kind words, thoughts, support and generosity.
It was a beautiful ending
Indeed, the ending is bittersweet. However, we do not need to fret for our furry hero. She died knowing she was fully loved. She was also able to show her mom once again how much she loves her.
