Seven years after an elderly cat went missing in California, his owner had lost all hope of finding him again. But, apparently, life had other plans for the two of them.

But let’s see how it all started. In 1012, right before moving from California to Ohio, Robert lost his 12-year-old cat. For this reason, he paused his plans for one whole year in order to look for Chebon the tabby. During that year, he didn’t lose hope- he deeply believed that he would find him. But it was all in vain.

After one year of intense search, he had to come to terms with the fact that he’d probably never see his best friend again, so he decided to eventually move to Ohio as per his initial plan.

Then, life happened in the meantime, and he had to go on with his life and forget about his long lost friend. Yet, he never did. He kept praying for Chebon to be found and was convinced that some time they’d meet again.

“I remember once at one point,” Robert told The Dodo, “I was praying and I said: ‘God, I’ll do anything. I just want Chebon back.'”

And then, just when all hope seemed lost, a kind woman found a cat on the street. According to Gena, the cat looked sick, so she decided to catch him and take him to the vet. When scanning the cat, it was found that she had a microchip on her, and so they traced her back to Robert.

At first, Robert thought there might have been a mistake, but it wasn’t.

“I was afraid,” Robert admitted, “I thought, ‘Well, maybe there’s a mistake or something.”

And then, it was time for them to meet again. The Dodo was there filming the reunion of the two friends. There, in the vet’s surgery, Robert was faced with the box where Chebon was. And when he opens it, he is overwhelmed by emotions.

Right when he looks at the cat he knows it’s his buddy, and he can’t hold back his emotions. He goes on talking with the people around him, and then suddenly, Chebon turns around, stretches his arms and asks for a hug. This breaks Robert, who immediately takes him into his arms and hugs him tight.

Everyone present in the room is touched by this moment. They can only utter “aww” and “so cute”. They’re even talking about a miracle.

And, for Robert, it is indeed a Christmas miracle. As he explains, he had a feeling that this Christmas would be special for him.

“I have a lot to be thankful for,” he said. “I remember, it was just a couple of weeks before [Gena] called, I had thought, there’s going to be something special about this Christmas.”

And his instinct didn’t fail him. Here he is today with Chebon making up for the lost time.
