Have you ever been on a diet? Probably yes. It would appear most people have gone on a diet at some point in their lives, be it for aesthetic reasons or medical ones. Now, when on a diet, did you count the hours before your next meal? Probably yes- again.

That is the case for the cat in this story, too. Luna, the chubby cat, loves food more than anything – and she can’t wait until her meals are served.

Tarin Tanner adopted Luna when the kitten was just over a month old. She took her home and they soon fell in love with each other and enjoyed their time together. Tarin also had another cat, so she knew how feeding goes with cats. At first, she would fill the kitty’s bowl and, whenever she felt like it, Luna would go and have a bite.

They soon found out, though, that Luna always felt like eating. In fact, it appeared to be her favorite thing to do.

“When we first got Luna we open-fed her,” Tarin Tanner, told The Dodo. “That was a bad idea because she gained weight so fast and at one point the vet handed me a pamphlet on cat obesity. That’s when I knew she had to go on a stricter diet.”

As soon as they got warned by the vet, Luna’s parents tried to put her on a diet. So, they stopped leaving her food out. However, this didn’t seem to work. Whenever they filled her bowl, she’d eat her meal too fast and then would start crying so that they gave her more food.

They soon realized that this wasn’t going to help Luna lose weight, so they decided to go for an alternative. They bought an automatic food dispenser that released smaller portions of food five times a day.

When the dispenser was brought home, Luna immediately knew it was food-related by looking at the big tank at the back of it. So, she started messing with it, trying to break into it and eat! But it was all in vain. Until at some point, the feeder released the first meal. This definitely scared the life out of the cat, who ran away from it. Then, hesitantly, she came back and devoured her meal.

After that, the food dispenser became Luna’s best friend! She even memorized the schedule of the meals and started standing in front of it in time for her next meal. Over time, she became even closer friends with the machine, so much so that she now spends most of her time looking at it.

“If she isn’t busy napping she likes to spend her time hanging by the feeder, being a kitty land mine,” Tanner said. “Sometimes she lays on her back, other times she just stares at it almost willing the food to come.”

While Luna is happy with her new food-gifting friend, her diet is on the right track so they’re sticking to it for now.

The chubby kitty is awesome and we’re sure she’ll soon be a lot slimmer and healthier with the help of her food dispenser.
