Many of us who have cats, or have friends with cats, have wondered what the cats would do if they witnessed their owners’ death – or if they found them dead for that matter.

Some people think the cats would simply sit comfortably on their dead bodies, and just wait to see what happens next. Others believe that it would eventually eat them if they suddenly died. But none of those people know for sure.

One man decided to stop speculating and find out what his cat would really do if he suddenly died in front of his feline buddy. So, he staged his fake death and had someone film the whole thing. And it went like this.

At the beginning of the video, the cat is resting in its bed and the man is standing next to the bed. Suddenly, he lets out a scream and falls on the bed face down. He then stops moving and pretends to be dead so that he can capture the cat’s reaction on camera.

The cat at first doesn’t seem to bother, but when she realizes her human is not moving anymore, she stares at him for a while and then- with very quiet and cautious moves- slowly walks towards the bed.

As it approaches the bed, it gets all the more nervous. It pauses for a moment to smell her human’s foot- probably trying to sense if he’s alive- and then she considers jumping on the bed. It takes her a few moments of thinking and contemplating, but eventually, she decides to go for it.

The cat jumps on the man’s legs and looks around. Throughout this time it is important to say that the man doesn’t make the slightest move. Great acting skills- we’re giving him that! Then she slowly moves away from his body, walks on the bed for a moment and then sits by her owner looking around searching for a sign that he is alive- maybe.

She then decides she might be able to help him, so she starts walking again, this time with one leg touching her human’s back as if she wants to wake him up gently. Then she crawls on his back, moving towards his neck, smelling him at the same time.

She then moves on to his face and hand, smelling him all the time- still trying to find out whether he’s dead or if he’s going to wake up soon. She keeps going around his face for a while and then turns around, as if she’s heard something.

And that’s where the whole experiment fails. The cat has probably heard a sound the person holding the camera made and realized she was being played the whole time. No, you don’t do that to a cat! She then sits there at the corner of the bed staring at the person filming the video.

We have no idea what happened next, but the experiment was busted- such a pity! We’ll never find out if the cat would try to eat him later on!
