This clever bed frame transforms into a playground for cats

However much we love our cats, they can get a little…well, exhausting at night. We want to sleep and they want to play.

And since they want to be near you, your bed looks like the very best playground.

A cat-friendly bed

Cats seem to take special delight in rejecting the expensive things we invest in on their behalf. Buy a nice cat bed? They’ll jump in the box instead.

But one company is trying to give cats something to do while you sleep so they can still be near you without t necessarily disturbing you. It’s called the Gatrimonial bed and it was created by a Colombian company called CatLife.

But we’ll admit that the main photo doesn’t give us much confidence at first since the cat is asleep ON the bed.

The design

As you can see from the photo, the bed frame has openings in the bottom so your cat can climb around a set of tunnels and feel both secure and entertained.

Take a look at the inside:

And if you have a scaredy-cat that likes to hide under the bed at any time of day, this frame gives them even more options for feeling safe.

The makers told Bored Panda:

“With our bed, our cat clients don’t feel invaded in their territory, nor do they have to run looking for a safe space to hide. Under this bed, they find a quiet place, full of calm and security, and best of all, it still has the same functionality for the owner! You will continue to rest as you normally would, but now, you provide a unique den to your cat.”

The specifics

The price of the bed ranges from roughly $550 to $680 and comes with a mattress and side tables, which is pretty much a steal since a mattress alone will cost at least that much.

And you have your choice of pine or oak wood or melamine, which is a very strong material related to plastic. The owners say that all wood comes from sustainable sources.

But more importantly, it’s designed to get in and out of easily so your cats don’t get nervous and feel lost in the labyrinth.

And how do you clean it, you might ask? Well, they admit it’s not easy. You’ll need to lift the mattress, but they’re working on a system that simplifies it all.

What is CatLife?

If you think this bed is clever, CatLife offers other feline-friendly furnishings as well. And the best part is that they are sleek and stylish and don’t interfere with your home design.

The company was founded in 2013 by a Colombian couple, David and Naty, who wanted to make beautiful furniture that pleases people and cats alike.

But wait, there’s more…

“At this time, we manage traditional cat beds and play areas, but also, thinking about the life that we have with them as owners and in order to optimize space, we created our home line: multifunctional furniture for human and feline use such as the bed, nightstands, studios, entertainment centers, libraries, and many more products.”

We have to admit – we’re big fans of the aesthetic!
