Cat’s favorite game is trying to play with a spider its owner drew on paper

With most people sequestered in their homes these days, it looks like we can expect to see a lot more cat videos. Pets seem to be the real winners in all of this as owners are now home all day for games and snuggles (even if the owners themselves have work to do).

Perhaps that’s why one simple but adorable video is starting to go viral with over 52,000 views in just two weeks.

A Facebook user who goes by the name of MG Wine uploaded a video of a cat trying to vanquish a spider. But it wasn’t just any spider. In fact, it posed no risk at all.

Wine is not the cat’s owner and captioned the video: “The owner says she has been drawing spiders for years and the cat never tires of this game.”

To be fair, cats don’t have particularly large brains, and when they are willing to be amused, it’s pretty easy to do. In fact, those little red laser pointers can provide years of fun even though no cat in history has ever successfully caught one.

It’s possible that the cat is more interested at first in the pen movement as the owner begins drawing under a title that says “It’s spider time!”

The video is only 13 seconds long but shows the cat’s interest pique as soon as it sees the circling movement of its owner’s pen.

What’s left is a very rudimentary spider – but it’s not an art show. That drawing is enough for the cat who immediately tries to stomp it with its left paw.

But no luck.

Alas, the cat has more tricks up its sleeve.

It tries the right paw.

But still, no dice.

Why won’t this spider come off the page and play?

The cat decides the one-handed smash isn’t going to work, so it tries swiping at the page in the hopes of lifting it up so it can play with it mid-air.

After all, it’s no fun for a cat to play with something if they can’t pretend it’s fighting back.

Despite our feline exterminator’s best efforts, the spider remains in place.

But this is a game it just won’t give up on.

If paws don’t work, perhaps a full-body pounce will.

Alas, no, it will not.

Despite never having gotten to the spider in this game before, the cat seems convinced that more effort will result in victory. After all, what else does a cat have to do?

As it paws and nips at the page, the video ends. And we’re pretty sure it ended in failure.

Then again, if stimulation and a tiny bit of exercise were the goals then it was mission accomplished.

While plenty of commenters were amused, it appears that it takes a special cat to be amused by this game.

One viewer posted their failed attempt at playing it with their own cat.

To be fair, the piece of paper was missing the title, so perhaps that cat didn’t know which game they were playing!

While it appears this is not a game for every cat, if you’re indoors and trying to entertain your feline friend, it’s certainly worth a try!
