Cat steals tortillas when mom isn’t looking – and takes a single bite out of every one

Fishtails Animal Rescue in Philadelphia took in a kitten with an upper respiratory infection and named him Cowboy.

That was all it took to convince Catherine, a volunteer at the shelter, to take him home as a temporary foster.

It didn’t take long for Catherine (‘Philly_Street_Cat’ on Instagram), to realize that Cowboy has something special.

When a foster takes an animal and adores it so much they just have to keep it forever, it is known as a ‘foster fail’. Well, Catherine foster failed, and Cowboy found his forever home alongside three other cats!

Of Catherine’s three other cats, some are special needs rescues. They all get along superbly, but Cowboy is without a doubt the leader of the pack.

He’s always getting into all kinds of trouble around the house, and at this point, his mom has come to accept it as one of his cute quirks.

“He’s an expert at causing trouble and he’s too smart for his own good,” Catherine told The Dodo.

“It is his life mission to eat human food.”

Cowboy’s number one way of causing a ruckus is by trying to steal food. He’s a cat that rips into garbage bags and poses for a picture, like a dog!

Except Cowboy seems even better than a dog at getting to the food. He is nimble enough to get into the fridge on his quest for new delicacies.

“It is his life mission to eat human food,” Catherine said. “I often have to put him in a separate room just so I can cook and eat. He even tries to sneak bites from the other end of a burrito or slice of pizza. He’ll lick a bowl of pasta sauce clean if he can get to it.”

Along with her rescue work, Catherine also works as a vet tech at a 24/7 animal hospital, so she’s had plenty of training to keep up with Cowboy’s quests — but sometimes, he’s simply too quick.

Catherine had just gotten home from the store and put all the groceries in the kitchen before stepping out to go to the bathroom. She only took a minute.

But a minute was all it took for Cowboy to root through the groceries and lock in his target. The bag of tortillas stood no chance against Cowboy’s claws and fangs.

“He took a bite out of every single tortilla in the pack,” Catherine said. “20 tortillas.”

In under a minute, Cowboy had been able to open the bag of tortillas and get to munching. He enjoyed a delectable meal, making sure to chew on every last one of the 20 tortillas.

“He’s an expert at this now,” Catherine said.

Upon discovering the mess, Catherine chased Cowboy, but he made off with a tortilla still in his mouth!

Catherine had to chase him around to get it from him, but that may be a futile effort, as we can all be sure that Cowboy’s passion is steadfast. He is likely plotting his next sneaky operation right now.
