Owner surprised to find their clever cat taught himself to use the toilet

Mr. Jinx, the Colorpoint Persian cat, made anyone who watched ‘Meet the Fockers’ crack up.

For those who don’t remember, or never watched the film (firstly, go watch it), Mr. Jinx taught himself to use and flush the toilet.

And his weird relationship with Robert De Niro’s character made it even funnier!

Seeing as the film is a rom-com from the early 2000s, you can’t take it too seriously.

But the concept was impressive, and had to make you wonder if a cat could possibly do that in reality.

Well, it turns out they can! It’s more common than you would think, and there are actually lots of cats who have been trained to use a human toilet instead of the litter box.

Take Ramen, for example. Not the actual noodles, but the cat!

His owner, Izzie Willis, knew she had a clever cat, but never imagined he could learn a trick she didn’t teach him.

He taught himself to use a human toilet.

And she has no idea when or how! She just happened to catch him doing it one day.

“I was brushing my teeth [in the bathroom] and he came up to me, looked me square in the eyes and started pissing in the toilet,” Willis told The Dodo. “My reaction was, ‘Wow.’”

How else could one possibly react to something like that? The fact that he made eye contact has me screaming!

Needless to say, Willis was shocked to see Ramen using the toilet.

Isn’t that what she bought a litter box for? And she knew it sounded so crazy that no one would believe her.

So, she decided to capture the moment on video and posted it on Twitter. “Pics or it didn’t happen,” as they say.

“Caught another vid from of my cat peeing in the toilet. I honestly do not know how he taught himself to do this.” Izzie Willis on Twitter

It’s possible that he decided to mimic her human behavior, or maybe he thinks he’s a human too!

Unlike the fictional Mr. Jinx, Ramen hasn’t gotten the hang of flushing the toilet yet, but we’re still impressed.

Twitter exploded with other users sharing videos of their own cats doing the same thing, or people who were mind blown by what they had just witnessed.

Some compared their cats to Izzie’s. But they’re all special in their own way!

Others made predictions for what this clever cat may be able to pull off in the future.

Wouldn’t it be so much easier if cats filed their own nails?

But hold your horses. Before you go setting up your plans to teach your own cat how to use a human toilet, let’s weigh the pros and cons.

Some experts have noted that it’s not necessarily a wise choice. It can cause problems for the cat and its owner.

Some negatives include the risk of a human contracting Toxoplasma gondii, a a parasite that cats carry and cause Toxoplasmosis.

If you’ve never heard of that before, I can promise you don’t want it.

Additionally, if a cat is used to using the toilet, but the bathroom is unaccessible for any reason, your shoes, laundry basket, and carpets are at risk of being considered a good backup plan!

And for the cat, the positioning and precision required for getting up on a toilet seat can be challenging.

Just look at how complicated this looks! It definitely doesn’t look very comfortable.

So when your cat gets older it will likely suffer from arthritis and continuing to use a human toilet will be unnecessarily difficult.

All of these “cons” aside, seeing little Ramen use a human toilet is still pretty cute. And very impressive that he was clever enough to teach himself how to do it!
