If you’ve never had a pet rat, you might not know that the creatures fight with one another sometimes – even when they’re not competing for resources.

They do it for the same reason humans do – to establish dominance, to relieve anxiety, to play, or just because they’re aggressive.

And while we shouldn’t find it funny to see creatures (no matter what species) in so much distress that they’re duking it out, there’s just something really ridiculous about two rats engaged in fisticuffs.

When a Facebook user who goes by the name of Cheez Goh spoke to Bored Panda about her viral video or two rats fighting while a cat watched on, she explained:

“I was on my way home on the 8th of July around 10 pm and under my block, I saw those 2 rats running and chasing each other around trying to provoke one another, and they went separate ways while I wanted to film it. Then it happened again and I quickly took a video of the process.”

But she doesn’t know what led to the rodent rage in the first place.

“They were already running around upon me reaching my block
”

Alas, it will remain a mystery.

Why is it such a hit (no pun intended)?

Those tiny arms, perhaps
or the speed at which they pummel one another. It’s like the video has been sped up – except it hasn’t.

And to make matters more ridiculous, a local cat happened upon the impromptu boxing match and decided to enjoy a ring-side seat.

Now, we’re not sure about the context here, but normally we’d expect a cat to head right for this melee thinking it could get a tasty two-for-one meal.

But perhaps the cat sensed that this was a personal issue that it just didn’t want to get in the middle of.

Those rats are really throwing down, after all!

Even though the feline fighting fan wasn’t willing to interrupt, all bets were off once the tiny punches died down.

Goh told Bored Panda:

“The two rats just gave up and went separate ways. One ran away from the camera, one came towards the camera where I was standing. It didn’t seem to notice I was filming the process and ran towards me. I freaked out as it was approaching me, causing a sudden movement.”

Sounds like the hyped-up creatures were still in panic mode. And maybe they saw the cat and decided to settle the score another day.

Of course, once the rats were scampering away on their own, the cat’s hunting instincts kicked into high gear.

“The rat then ran for its life and that’s when the cat saw that the rat was running and charged towards it. However, the cat missed because the rat went under the drain. The rat was really fast!” Goh said.

Well, it sounds like no one was a winner here, except maybe Goh who now has over a quarter of a million views on her video in the last month.

Of course, she had no idea the short, strange video would draw so much attention:

“No, I didn’t expect my video to go viral. I thought it was a rare sight! And it was pretty amusing. So I shared!”

What can we say, the Internet loves a weird moment caught on film.
