Video shows quirky cat that thinks she is a spider

We all know cats are frisky felines. They like to climb on furniture and are playful and energetic. If your cat jumps on the sofa, you probably wouldn’t bat an eyelash. But, when she starts to set her sights higher, you may definitely look twice.

Well, one cat has her owner doing a double and triple take. Meet PeeWee and don’t let the name fool you. There’s nothing small about this cat. She’s got big ideas.

Peewee’s owner, Katie Shrume, admits that her cat is on the crazy side. Shrume says her cat is super active and likes to cuddle, of course. But, one day Peewee decided it was time to take it up a notch. Climbing furniture just wasn’t cutting it anymore.

So, she looked up to see what she could climb. The fridge was looking pretty good.

But, that still wasn’t enough to quench her daredevil needs. So, she kept on looking. What else could she climb? Well, there wasn’t any other furniture or appliances that were any higher than the fridge. So, she figured the only thing left was the ceiling.

But, wait, cats can’t climb ceilings, or can they?

Peewee’s mom was shocked when she saw Peewee on the ceiling. Cats aren’t supposed to climb ceilings! Peewee was showing her owner that she was certainly not your average kitty. Shrume says in the beginning Peewee only got halfway, but then she can turn around too. Pretty impressive!

Just call her “Spider Kitty” because Peewee takes to the ceiling at least once a week according to her owner. But, that doesn’t stop her owner from getting nervous. She says she gets scared when she sees Peewee up there, but if she does fall, the fridge isn’t too far.

Peewee’s owner shouldn’t be too surprised that her cat likes to climb to high places. According to Pet MD, cats have a long history with a love for heights. Cats liked to climb to new heights to look for their meal options.

Cats used to climb to high places to also protect themselves from large predators. Now, they may climb to high places to hide from other large predators…like other animals and children.

According to Pet MD, cats feel safe when they’re in high places, especially if kids or dogs like to chase them around. When they’re in high places, no one can get to them, well maybe other cats, but certainly not dogs or kids!

Height can also be a sign of status. Cats who find the highest perches are thought to be the most dominant. The position of top cat is a coveted spot that many cats love to hold. When there’s only one cat at home, there’s no need to share.

Maybe all of this can explain Peewee’s behavior?

Since we can’t get inside the mind of cats, we’ll just have to trust science and our imaginations. Hopefully, Peewee’s owner doesn’t get another cat so she doesn’t have to share her spot on the ceiling. For now, she can climb to new heights and take the spot of top cat as she looks down on everyone below her.
