Video shows cats’ reactions to owners using cat filters

This video compilation shows the cute and funny reactions that cats have upon seeing their owners using a cat filter.

Tiktok, Instagram, and Snapchat all have their own collection of filters. With beauty enhancements like funny and wacky filters, taking photos and videos will never be the same.

These fun face filters aren’t just popular with kids and teens though. Even some adults are having fun trying out the different effects. One of the latest “filter” trends has been the cat and dog face filters, in particular.

Last year, The Dodo posted a video showing how pet cats reacted to this feline design.

The 3-minute video is a compilation of many different clips from different users showing their cats’ reactions when they turn on the cat filter.

At first, most of the cats would seem completely fine with their owners, but when the filter came on it was an entirely different story.

Some of these cats were shocked, while others tried to figure out what exactly was happening. We would then see the “surprised” reactions of each cat. Most, after a few seconds, had to even do a double-take. A bonus part of the video also showed pet dogs reacting to the same cat filters.

While some of the cats’ reactions were funny, others seem to have a slightly terrified look, which left some viewers a bit upset.

The Internet seems to be having mixed emotions about this viral video compilation. Some are enjoying the cats’ reactions – saying that they are priceless, funny, and super cute.

However, there are also comments about how this video is somewhat “cruel,” and how it is abusing and scaring pet cats. According to some, this may even leave cats feeling traumatized.

Others, however, are discussing how this is a good experiment. According to these viewers, these videos can show how cats think and process information that is given to them. An article published by The Verge actually discusses how little we, as a society, know about cat cognition.

According to Sarah-Elizabeth Byosiere, an animal behavior researcher and also the director of the Thinking Dog Center at CUNY Hunter College, conducting research studies with cats is a challenge.

She says that cats, in general, are elusive and they don’t usually cooperate. That’s why for her, this collection of videos can be very helpful.

“It appears the cat recognizes that their owner’s face should be on the phone, but it is not,” Kristyn Vitale of Oregon State University told The Verge through e-mail.

And while this video compilation helps examine more of the inner workings of the feline brain, there are still many elements that remain a mystery.
