Bored woman teaches her cats how to play tic-tac-toe

If you’re confined to your home (like most of us are right now) with your pets and looking for new and exciting ways to entertain yourself, perhaps you’d like to consider teaching your furry fellow quarantinees a game to pass the time.

People have been filming themselves teaching their cats to play tic-tac-toe for quite some time now, but Brittni Young has found a way to do it that keeps everyone happy and amused.

Young has multiple cats but started with her kitten, Archie, who is just 6 months old. He’s the perfect age for trying new things and is super active. Plus, he LOVES treats.

“He’s very affectionate and very much still a kitten,” Young told The Dodo.

First, she drew a tic-tac-toe board. Then, she put a cat treat in each square.

Archie has some pretty good self-control here because if we did this with our own cat the board would be cleared in about 10 seconds.

But the kitten waits his turn (most of the time).

As Young let Archie loose on the board, he took his first “turn” by eating one treat. An “X” went in that box.

Then it was his owner’s turn and she took a treat off the board – presumably not partaking in the snacking – and put down her “O.”

While Archie’s strategy could use some work, he at least provides some solid entertainment for a few moments, even though he does get carried away. This forces Young to rush to keep up with his sudden lust for treats.

The game ultimately goes to the human, although Archie probably feels like a winner after all those snacks.

He even takes the remaining ones as a consolation prize.

Next up was Young’s cat Jax, who wasn’t sure she really wanted to participate at first.

It appears that Jax has the same strategy as Archie, going for the upper right-hand corner first. But this little girl pulls a surprise move as she dips in quickly to get a treat from the other side of the board and gives her mom time to really think about the next move.

Jax keeps the game going a bit longer than Archie, though it’s just a momentary amusement.

Meanwhile, Archie comes in for a rematch but is rebuffed by Young since he’s already had his turn.

In the end, Jax finished the game strong but is still bested by her owner who goes 2 for 2 in The Great Cat Tic-Tac-Toe Quarantine Showdown of 2020.

The cats now seem eager to play the game, but risk falling into the human trap of snacking all day.

Young isn’t the only cat owner to resort to tic-tac-toe during the quarantine. Social media is full of people trying to fill the void of live sports by engaging with their pets this way.

One Twitter user managed to get their cat to point to the squares in order to play.

But the cute kitty ended up being quite the sore loser – so sore that the video has attracted over 24 million views in just a few weeks!

It’s best to proceed with caution if you’re going to make your cat entertain you during this trying time.

At the very least, they should get some treats for all of their trouble.
