Cesar Millan removes muzzle from 'aggressive' German Shepherd to prove valuable point

Cesar Millan is more popularly known as the ‘Dog Whisperer’, in fact, he had a reality television series called ‘Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan’ that aired for nine seasons.

However, not everyone approves of his ways of teaching, it even came to a point when people called his ways “inhumane.” Despite the cancellation of his reality TV series, Millan still continues taking in clients who are in desperate need of his help.

His ways may be different from other dog trainers, but what matters most here is his genuine compassion for both owners and their dogs. After all, he is a genuine dog trainer, and being known as one worldwide is perhaps, just a plus for him.

An impossible mission?

There is no such thing for Millan, he can tame even the wildest dog breeds out there. Just like this aggressive German Shepherd named Ovechkin.

The problem with this GSD was that he’s so territorial and he’s always aggressive to anyone who gets into his personal space. And you wouldn’t want to anger a dog of that size, although GSDs are known for being loyal dogs, annoying them could put you in a world of trouble.

A German Shepherd’s bite force could go as strong as 238 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch), a bite force that can easily hurt or even kill a human. This is on top of GSD’s being ranked as the third most aggressive dog breed in the world and fifth on the list of dog breeds with the strongest jaws.

In this video with over 10 million views, Millan showed everyone how it’s properly done.

With caution, he told his crews to back off.

That’s simply because he wouldn’t be able to protect them while trying to restrain the aggressive dog at the same time.

Millan had to have a stand-off with Ovechkin for he was really aggravated to see a new human on his turf. The Dog Whisperer didn’t back off an inch and he was ready to take in the challenge from the angered canine.

When he finally had the dog under control, he placed a muzzle on its mouth to avoid any further aggression coming from the dog.

Millan then brought Ovechkin to his own home for a one-on-one training session. There, the GSD was no longer in his territory so he would need to back down and respect the owner of the place and that’s Millan.

It was the moment of truth when Millan decided to remove Ovechkin’s muzzle and to his surprise, the dog didn’t attack or showed any sign of aggression.

Putting the wild canine into a submissive state.

Millan then stood in front of Ovechkin while holding a huge walking stick and on the other side, he placed a fan to put the dog in a corner. This way, he wanted to let the GSD know that he was no longer in his territory and that he must submit to him.

It was a success, little by little, Ovechkin eventually started to learn how to respect others’ personal space.

Next, they put the dog to another test.

With his crew, Millan took the liberty of putting Ovechkin’s social skills to a test. His crew formed a small circle with their backs against each other.

Then Millan handed his crew some dog food and instructed them not to give it to Ovechkin. With his muzzle still on, the GSD noticed the dog food but was downright shooed away by the men. It’s to teach Ovechkin another thing about respecting others’ personal space.

What Millan was about to do next had his crew trembling in fear, because this time, it’s still the same test but without the muzzle on.

Hardwork sure pays off!

That’s exactly what happened to Millan’s mission in taming the then-wild canine in Ovechkin. The dog finally learned how to respect someone’s space as much as his personal space has been respected for the longest time.

Millan is truly the Dog Whisperer and now we know why.

Hopefully, more dog owners will start to appreciate Millan’s way of dog training. It might be an unorthodox way, but as long as his purpose is solely about dogs’ welfare, then I think we should all acknowledge and respect that.
