Foster mom worries about tiny Chihuahua’s big belly only to wake up to ‘record-breaking gift’
If you have a dog who has had puppies, then you know how magical it can be when they are born. In many cases, the momma dog lays there resting from her labor while you and your family check out her beautiful pups. One Chihuahua mom, though, had to work harder than normal when she had her litter of baby Chihuahuas.
Taken in as she was due to give birth
The Chihuahua mom, named LOL, or Laugh Out Loud after the popular text slang, had been taken in by Unleashed Pet Rescue and Adoption in Kansas due to a hoarding situation. When she was taken in, she was pregnant and was due at any time. Soon, LOL was in a foster home waiting to have her pups.
LOL’s puppies are born
As LOL went into labor in her foster home, her foster mom, Josie Brown, prepared to welcome her puppies into the world. Keeping in touch with the rescue center, she kept them informed as the puppies were born. Imagine her surprise when Lol kept having puppies and she kept having to inform the center of each new birth.
LOL ties a record
It was only a coincidence that LOL had given birth on National Puppy Day, but boy did she deliver. As the night continued, the family counted seven, eight, and then nine puppies. Eventually, at 10 puppies, the family was able to relax, LOL’s work done. The family settled in for the night, the proud, new momma content to relax with her babies. She had tied the record for most Chihuahua puppies born at one time.
Another puppy is found in the morning
In the morning, the family did a count of the puppies, discovering that LOL had actually had 11 puppies, a new world record. In all, LOL ended up having eight boys and three girl puppies. In no particular order, the puppies were named Axl, Lars, Sid, Meatloaf, Bjork, Doyle, Angus, Bowie, Elle, Guinness, and Willow. Each of the puppies was given a different colored collar to help tell them apart.
All of them, except Elle, the eleventh puppy born, were named after rock stars. “Her name is Eleven after the character in ‘Stranger Things,'” LOL’s foster mom said. “Rock stars and ‘Stranger Things’ because this is pretty strange.”
LOL sets a new record
At the time of the story, Unleashed Pet Rescue & Adoption, the organization that originally took LOL in, said that the organization planned on applying with the Guinness Book of World Records to get LOLs accomplishment certified.
“This is extremely rare,” said Rebecca Taylor with Unleashed Pet Rescue & Adoption. “We’re hoping to get the world record with these 11 chihuahua puppies. From a small chihuahua mama, it’s just unheard of.”
