Chihuahua performs choreographed dance to 'Swan Lake' with ballerina

If you never give up, your dreams can come true. Even if you’re a dog!

A chihuahua named Joya dreamed of becoming a ballerina.

Her wish came true when she competed in the 2022 Crusts’ Heelwork to Music competition.

According to Dog Sports UK, “Heelwork to Music competitions are for the purpose of giving handlers an opportunity to demonstrate skilful movements by their dog and to perform heelwork and freestyle movements in a combined manner that interprets the chosen music and reflects the dog and handler working as a team.”

Joya and her human mom, Karin Baumann, performed their rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” at the prestigious doggy dance contest.

The Russian ballet was composed between 1875 and 1876 and was initially a failure, according to Wikipedia.

It now stands as one of the most popular ballets of all time.

“Swan Lake” tells the tales of Odette, Queen of the Swans, who was once a woman that was transformed into a swan by an evil immature sorcerer.

The video of their performance obviously went viral. How could it not? It’s a dog doing ballet. Daily Mail reports that Joya “stole the show” for fans in attendance as well.

Baumann was dressed in a white leotard and tutu while the dance floor had plastic white and black swans with feathers on them.

Sweet little Joya mimicked mom’s moves as she tiptoed across the floor.

Clever Joya knew exactly when to climb up on her momma or step on top of a swan.

She hit all of her marks like the very good girl that she is. And she was wagging her tail while she did it.

Toward the end of her piece Joya triumphantly ran across the dance floor in fast joyous circles.

Toward the end, she sat on top of the black swan and let mom drag her around on it.

She ended her piece by collapsing on the floor in unison with her mom.

It was a very breathtakingly emotional and dramatic performance.

Unfortunately, Joya and Baumann didn’t go home with awards.

The title of best in show went to Baxer a flat-coated retriever whose owner was in tears over his win.

“It’s amazing. I’m really, really proud of him,” owner Patrick Oware said.

Still, Joya was a fan favorite. The video of her performance on mom’s YouTube page has been viewed more than 118,000 times.

“I’m in love with this routine This is such an unusual display, and yet it’s oddly fitting. The Chi is super adorable, wagging its little tail, great eye contact. And when it takes off running at the end with the music rising. Just amazing and super heartwarming,” said one commenter.

“Honestly, the way the crowd reacted, I don’t understand why you and you’re sweet pupper didn’t take 1st place. I think your little one had to learn over a thousand dance moves over the three-and-a-half-minute routine. Hitting marks along the way! BRAVO to you both!! Wonderful,” said another.
