Adorable chipmunk chows down on seeds with mama and baby deer
Animal friendships are always a beautiful thing to see. Firstly, they are just downright adorable – especially the strange ones! Seeing a lion and a dog napping together turns your notion of “predator” on its head. Secondly, they remind us of how we can all do better. If these animals who are totally different species can get along, we as humans can do better, right?
A recent video shows us that those cute interactions happen everywhere – even in our backyards.
Many people are fascinated by nature and do things to encourage little woodland critters to come to visit.
A bird feeder hanging outside a window is an easy way to add a bit of joy to your life as they flit around, singing all the while! Another way is to leave some seeds out for squirrels and chipmunks who need some way to store up food for the winter. Even more, some people throw out corn on the ground to attract deer!
The video shows what happens when someone has deer feed AND seeds out for the little guys.
As far as feasts go, this was one for the legends – at least in the animal’s eyes. As the video goes on, we see a mama deer eating some feed off the ground near an oak tree. On a wooden table to the right, a feeder is set up where a little chipmunk is having a grand ol’ time eating away!
The mama deer isn’t alone, either!
She has a little fawn with her! Its white-speckled body and tiny frame are super adorable. It’s no wonder people love to leave food out for these animals! As the video goes on, we see that the deer are attracted to something that must smell yummy over on the table.
It is probably a fancy nut or something.
While we don’t know what it is, it smelled yummy enough to attract the mama, her fawn, AND the chipmunk, all at the same time. As they sat together, you would think that it was a little woodland family coming together for an evening meal.
The channel that posted it, Deer Trail, probably won’t be uploading any more videos like this soon!
The state of Minnesota banned feeding and attractants because there were repeated disease outbreaks linked to feeders.
“Feeding and attractant bans are in place across the state to prevent concentrations of wild deer in areas with a higher risk for disease. These bans are precautionary steps the DNR took after deer that tested positive for chronic wasting disease were found both in the wild and on deer farms,” the Department of Natural Resources states on their website.
Well, the deer might not be as fat as they used to be, but it’s probably better this way.
We will still watch them while we can!
Watching little woodland creatures eat together on a green-wooded backdrop is almost like something out of a Disney movie! In fact, if we remember correctly, there is even a chipmunk in the forest of the movie Bambi! Maybe it was a “based on real events” type of story…
