Some of the most unexpected places often have the best acoustics. That’s what a youth Choir from Church of The Messiah United Methodist Church discovered recently. They were traveling across the country on their summer 2015 tour when they decided to stop off at a roadside hotel to rest for the night.

After settling in, the group members all went down to the hotel pool to unwind and swim around for a bit.

That’s when one of them started singing. Instantly, the choir realized how special the location was. The small enclosed space coupled with the water covering most of the ground made for some pretty amazing sound effects.

The youth choir pounced on the opportunity.

All of them gathered around the edges of the pool and recorded one of the most incredible renditions of “I Believe” that we have ever heard.

The original song was written by Mark A. Miller and it has a haunting history.

Many of the lyrics were first found scratched into the walls at the Auschwitz concentration camp in Nazi Germany during WWII. The words were later adapted into a choral piece.

“I believe in the sun even when it is not shining.

And I believe in love, even when there’s no one there.

And I believe in God, even when he is silent.”

The song, is very beautiful, albeit somber, and applicable to both sacred and secular settings. It preaches a message of remaining hopeful, even in the darkest of hours.

As soon as the youth choir started singing that day in the hotel pool, something miraculous happened.

The words gracefully echoed off the walls forming an eerily pleasing harmony that shocked everyone, even the choir performers themselves. No one could believe it. The hallowed chambers of the random hotel proved to be the perfect spot to engage in their spiritual practice of song.

The video on YouTube of the amazing performance has now been viewed over three million times and received more than 118,000 likes.

It’s not every day that a choral song touches so many people, but in this case, that’s exactly what happened.

How could it not? There is so much emotion in the voices of the group members that it’s impossible not to pay attention. Whether you’re spiritual or not, the deep lyrics and sound quality of the performance are enough to affect anyone.

We can only imagine what the other guests in the hotel must have thought when walking by the room.

At least one man can be seen sitting on the edge of the pool with his head resting gently against his hand, taking it all in. It’s unclear as to whether he was related to the choir or just a random guest.

However, for anyone there to witness it, the youth’s performance was an incredible surprise. It’s something that the hotel guests and employees will likely be talking about for many years to come.

The water of the pool was literally vibrating from all of that singing! It just goes to show the power of song. You don’t need a fancy concert hall to make marvelous music. You simply need a voice and a willingness to sing with your heart. That’s what this choir found. Their beautiful performance is an inspiration to young singers everywhere.
