Chonky cat is so big that people keep thinking he’s pregnant

There is a definite stigma to asking an adult if they are pregnant (and for good reason). Thankfully, cats don’t take offense like humans do. If they did, this one cat might be the meanest feline to have ever graced this earth!

Fat Fred is, well, fat.

Let’s not mince words here. Fred got his name because of none other than his immense proportions. Fat Fred is a burly boy, and isn’t ashamed of it in the slightest. Fred currently lives that the Furry Friends Animal Hospital in Lousiana, but often causes confusion with the volunteers and patrons of the shelter.

When Fred was adopted, he weighed a MASSIVE 29 pounds!

Fred was adopted from another shelter by Marcia Riedel. Marcia could tell how big Fred was on the outside but didn’t realize how MUCH bigger he was on the inside! His personality matched his stature.

Fred has his own special job at the shelter where he lives.

Like a security guard, Fred roams around the place. He actually likes the shelter more than his own home!

“I found that he prefers to roam around the clinic as the official greeter, rather than live at my house with its lack of constant exposure to admirers,” Riedel told The Dodo. “Fat Fred believes that humans are meant to serve him food at all times.”

Fred loves to hang out near the front door of the shelter and attract attention.

If you were walking down the street and saw this Chonkster sitting at the window looking at you, you might think it was fake. Well, Fat Fred is as real as it gets and is here to stay. With all the attention he gets, Fred now has quite a devoted base of fans.

For people who don’t know who Fred is, they assume he is pregnant.

His girth often leads people to think that Fred has kittens on the way, but in fact, he doesn’t. He is just fat.

“90 percent of the folks seeing him believe he is pregnant,” Riedel said.

It actually became such a thing that they had to put a sign on the door!

People couldn’t stop asking questions about Fred, and it eventually was taking up too much time! If Fred was going to lounge near the front door, his owner decided to put up a sign to preemptively answer questions.

They are trying to work with Fred on his weight, but they have made some small progress!

Currently, Fred is 25 pounds. Losing four pounds for most cats would be highly unhealthy, but for Fred, it’s barely noticeable. He is quite a hefty boi, but is otherwise healthy.

If there is one thing that Fred is talented at, it’s hearing.

Fred has the uncanny ability to hear someone drop food from the entire office away! If something is dropped, you are sure to hear the thundering steps of Fred rousing himself and rumbling over to snatch up whatever you just dropped. It may be a long journey for him to full weight loss!
