The beauty of gleaming Christmas lights and tall Christmas trees just make us feel that everything is alright despite all the things that have been happening around us.

That’s why it doesn’t feel strange why some people put up Christmas decorations a bit too early. The truth is – we couldn’t blame them. They probably just want to brighten up the surroundings especially during these trying times.

Interesting, right? It turns out that it doesn’t only prevent you from the hassle of the Christmas rush but it also makes you a lot joyful even while waiting for the holidays.

They say that it brings back our happy memories of the past when we were still young.

It’s actually true as most of us probably have had special moments during our childhood, especially during holidays.

“Although there could be a number of symptomatic reasons why someone would want to obsessively put up decorations early, most commonly for nostalgic reasons either to relive the magic or to compensate for past neglect,” psychoanalyst Steve McKeown stated.

It also allows us to have a break from the stress of “adulting”.

It reminds us of those days when we were young and so excited for Christmas.

Do you remember how stoked you were about the gifts that you would receive?

Putting up decorations early also reminds us of that exact feeling. Those precious days when we would look forward to the presents that our loved ones would give us.

Another special thing about decorating early is it also stirs up our memories with our loved ones who already passed away.

This is according to the study of Amy Morin – who is a psychotherapist. She is also the author of 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do.

Although those memories would always remain in our hearts, the spirit of Christmas makes them more special.

“Perhaps the holidays serve as a reminder of when a loved one was still alive. For people who have lost a loved one, the holidays may serve as a reminder of happy times they had with that person in the past. Decorating early may help them feel more connected with that individual,” Amy explained.

Now we know why just staring at lovely Christmas decorations makes us feel better and a bit emotional.

If you know people who decorate their house with Christmas decors even before Halloween, they are probably happy with their lives. If you also like to do this but you’re thinking that other people might find it weird, then just don’t mind them. Do the things that make you happy.

Amazingly, people in the Philippines always start to celebrate Christmas from September until January. No wonder why this country ranked as the third happiest country in the world in 2018.

Hopefully, all of us would have fun-filled celebrations during the holidays. Spend it with the people you love. Cheers!
