These DIY outdoor gnomes make your yard full of holiday joy

Looking a lot like mini Santas themselves, Gnomes shouldn’t look out of place in a Christmas display, right? Heck, they might be

Could it be because Gnomes just don’t feel very “Christmas-y” to many people? Well, the Christmas spirit won’t make itself now, will it?

You can totally make your own outdoor Gnomes for Christmas that’d fit right in with Santa and his reindeer in your yard, and these pictures are here to show just that.

These DIY outdoor Christmas gnomes are taking off, in large part due to their simplicity and appeal. The minimalist approach – just use a Christmas tree for the whole body and slap a hat, gloves and nose onto it, is too irresistible to tons of people.

With steps as simple as that, it leaves a lot – and we mean a lot – of room for creativity and making yours look unique.

Taking a premade tree and giving it the gnome makeover is one approach that a lot of people took. Others have opted to make one completely from scratch. And we mean it when we say completely from scratch.

With just some tomato plant wire, gloves, a hat, a bunch of fig leaves, and maybe that potato you don’t want to eat, you can make a pretty gnarly gnome for Christmas yourself.

Side note : It doesn’t have to be a potato. As long as it looks like a nose, it’ll do.

Though make sure you don’t use something that someone might throw in a Christmas dish. It’d be pretty awkward if your mom can’t bake apple pie for the holidays because you used the last few apples for your gnomes’ noses.

With a handy tutorial on YouTube, and the very nicely accessible materials you need, making one of these is as easy as wolfing down a Christmas pie. You could even put a face mask on one of them if you’re feeling cheeky and want to have some good spirits up during the pandemic.

Size is no issue either. Want a tiny one? That’s fine. Want to make a giant one with an 8-foot tall Christmas tree as your starting base? That’s also fine! Just make sure you can reach it.

The one thing Gnomes have in common with Santa is that they’re about 50% beard, so you can make the whole body look like a “beard” using the leaves and people will still recognize what it is. It’s caricature art at its finest, isn’t it?

And with Christmas trees and fig branches in abundant supply now, you can find all the beard you need.

And like a normal Christmas tree, you can pin and decorate them to your heart’s content. A lot of folks are going for little hand signs.

Not only are these a wonderful way to mix things up this Christmas, they’re also a much-needed opportunity to give yourself something to do and work on while quarantining.

Wouldn’t hurt to make some of these for other people too. We know that a lot of folks love receiving decoration presents from people, especially unique ones!

Some ideas you can try include giving them boots, making them hold stuff, or lining up a whole bunch of them outside for Christmas, like what you do with normal Garden Gnomes.
