Couple transforms abandoned church into a magnificent cottage for rent
All of us have seen a scary movie that involved an old, run-down church. It usually had broken stained glass windows, boarded up holes, and a paranormal friend or two. This church, however, has a different future ahead of it.
Saint Nicholas Church was an active church that finished in 1792, the same year George Washington was elected president!
This old and stoic building has been around for quite a while! Finishing construction in 1792, this church was active for hundreds of years. The church was left in shambles after being abandoned in the 1980s, sitting dormant for a few decades.
A couple fell in love with the property and decided to renovate it as a residence.
Some people love going to church on Sunday but this couple never wanted to leave! After finding the property, they fell in love with the location and the building itself. There started a long journey to get the old church up and running as their new home!
Some of the additions and renovations that were done have transformed the property into a destination spot!
Still sporting the gothic look, the building has some incredible new features that would make anyone happy to live on-site.
Usually, church kitchens are found lacking but not this one! Built from the old church pews, the counter-tops contrast beautifully with the stainless-steel appliances.
The great room is one of the most beautiful spots in the house. Made up of the old chancel, nave, and vestry, it is now the dining room, living room, and kitchen.
One of the design intentions in many churches is to evoke a sense of awe and grandeur. When you take that same design and incorporate it into a home, you have something truly inspiring. The great room makes perfect use of that design principle and is an open floor plan that brings everything together.
What dream house is complete without a library? This home has one included!
With two staircases leading from the great room to the second floor, the first thing that you pass is the library. You can walk up the short flight, grab a book, and walk back to the great room to enjoy an hour or two of reading âsanctuaryâ.
Reminiscent of royalty, the dining room is a great spot to enjoy the stained-glass display while you eat.
Past the common area is the dining room. In it, you will find a piano, beautiful stained glass and⌠a bed? Yep, thatâs right! You can draw two large curtains together to close off one of the bedrooms in the house. Hopefully, someone wonât be chewing too loudly!
One of the super convenient features of the home is the heated floor! Now you donât have to worry about cold feet during the cold winters.
The entire property comes together to create a one of a kind experience.
The church sits on a hamlet in Scotland, six miles from the coast. The view from the top of the hill is stunning and overlooks the coast and Holy Island. The other direction is Scottish farmland with castles dotting the green expanse.
If you are ready for a non-paranormal church experience, this cottage might be a place to check out! They offer stays and trips at this beautiful and ancient church-turned-home.
