Clapton proves he’s still one of the greats with this live acoustic performance of “Layla”

Did you know that Eric Clapton is the only three-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Regarded as one of the most influential rock guitarists of all time, Clapton has received 18 Grammy Awards. One of those Grammys was awarded for his fantastic acoustic version of “Layla” in 1993.

“Layla” is one of Clapton’s most famous songs. It was released in 1970, and Clapton dedicated it to Pattie Boyd, the wife of Beatles’ guitarist George Harrison. Let’s listen to Clapton’s phenomenal live performance during his 2014 World Tour.

America’s beloved guitar virtuoso has just finished wrapping up “Little Queen of Spades,” and the audience excitedly reacted to the first few notes of “Layla.”

It is hard to ignore that familiar melody. As soon as Clapton started playing the song, the crowd’s enthusiasm skyrocketed. Eric is in the middle of the stage, sitting in a chair, with a beautiful royal blue guitar on his lap.

Time has nothing on him. He may be wearing glasses, but Clapton’s youthful appearance is incredible.

Two beautiful ladies singing back vocals alongside a keyboardist make sure the show is on point.

Although Eric’s beautiful voice would have been enough, you can’t complain about a little extra charm added to the song.

One YouTube user wrote quite a fantastic compliment: “Can this human being just live forever?”

It is easy to understand why Clapton ranked second in Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”

Do you prefer Clapton’s soft vocals or his passionate singing of the song back in the old days? It’s hard to decide.

“I’ve been playing this for 40 years before some of you were born.”

You’ve just got to appreciate Clapton’s sense of humor. To make things even more hilarious, he’s entirely right. The song is over half a century old.

Six and a half minutes is too short for such a masterpiece.

Admit it. You pressed the replay button more than once. We did too. It’s funny how Eric didn’t say, “See if you can spot this one,” when he began to play.

He is well aware of how popular the song is. It has gained iconic status over the years, and now it doesn’t need any special introduction.

Exquisite show

We have got to mention those girls from the chorus. Their voices were angelic.

The transition from the intro into the beginning of the song gave us goosebumps. In case you didn’t know, Clapton eventually won the heart of the woman he loved. Pattie Boyd divorced Harrison and married Clapton in 1979. Their marriage lasted a decade until they separated in 1989. Nevertheless, “Layla” remains a perfect song for winning a woman’s heart.

Eric Clapton was a member of nine different bands throughout his career.

Despite his worldwide fame as a solo performer, Clapton was also a member of several rock bands, including Cream, Yardbirds, Derek & the Dominos. Interestingly, Eric had an exciting nickname when he was a young musician.

His friends called him “Slowhand” because he often accidentally broke guitar strings during performances. We’re guessing that his hands picked up the calm over the years, and all we could see in the video was an extraordinary guitarist doing his magic. Bravo! You’ve enchanted us all once again.
