What exactly is clogging?

We have hundreds of dance styles in the world. The most common ones are probably jazz, ballet, salsa, ballroom, tap dancing, hip-hop, etc. But have you ever heard of clogging?

According to ClogOn.com, clogging is,

“A dance that is done in time with the music -to the downbeat usually with the heel keeping rhythm.”

It’s also known that during the mid-1700s, clogging originated from the Appalachian Mountains. It was when the Scottish, Irish, English, and Dutch-Germans all started to intermingle. Clogging then became a version of dancing that incorporated all their folk dances.

Clog dancing has evolved since then when it was born centuries ago.

Today, this style of dance has already been influenced by,

“…the Cherokee Indians, to African Blacks and Russian Gypsies, clogging has enveloped many different traditions to become truly a “melting pot” of step dances … New influences are creeping into the dance because of popular culture. Tap dancing, Canadian Step Dancing, Irish Hard Shoe and even street dancing and hip-hop influences are being seen to bear on the style of steps and dances performed by cloggers today.”

Does it make sense?

Since clog dancing was made from mixing different dances, then it would surely continue growing and become more popular as it takes in more and more new dance styles.

Is it safe to say that clogging will blossom even more and continue influencing other dance styles around the world? May it be traditional or modern dance styles? We think so, and so do these two cuties.

Madison and Morgan have been clogging since they were just five years old.

They do it, of course, as a duo- and with the four-time national champion clogging team, “Tap This” led by Joel Harrison.

They also have won their own achievements as a duo, both regional and national level awards.

In this video, Madison and Morgan were at the Showdown of Champions in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In the video, we can see the sisters wearing identical outfits from head to toe. They are also wearing wide smiles on their faces, it looks like their itching to show the crowd what they are capable of.

They make a perfect duo and their years of being partners reflect in their performance. Their routines are oozing with so much passion and their energy doesn’t seem to fade from start to finish.

If you are looking for real entertainment, then you have to see these girls dance!

They are like shadowing each other. They move as one with the music, it doesn’t look like they plan to be off-beat in any second.

They are so fun to watch not only because they are good but because they are incredibly entertaining.

There are even times that both their arms need to be intertwined with each other. Worry not, because they will not break each other’s arms, it’s just a part of their awesome routine.

Their movements have so many transitions and some routines are so tricky. It’s an unbelievable routine that only clog dancers of their caliber could pull off.

Maybe, being sisters is a plus factor to their success!

Can you imagine the amount of time and energy that they need to spend just to be that good? Good thing is that they are sisters and live in the same house, so they can practice their routine whenever and wherever they want.

Apart from that advantage, I guess, the genuine love and passion for the art is the ultimate reason why they keep on clogging.

The crowd is going wild!

Whenever they execute a tricky routine, the audience goes off with their loud cheers and applause. The people who are watching during that time are enjoying the sisters’ performance as much as Madison and Morgan are enjoying it.

They ended their routine by pointing to the crowd as if they’re telling them, “It’s your turn to dance!”
